Tomorrow, we're having the family over for my brother's birthday. Every time we have a family get together, I end up babysitting my cousins (aged 3 & 4).

I've tried getting out Playmobile, Lego, colouring sheets, everything that I would normally take to entertain a child while babysitting. Don't get me wrong, I love playing with these kids, I just don't want to end up playing 'Hide-and-Seek' with them for 3 hours.

Sorry, I don't think I phrased my question right.

I'd like them to entertain themselves for at least part of the afternoon, I don't want to end up babysitting. My aunts and uncles seem to assume that I want to spend 3 hours hiding in a closet from their kids.

I'm 14, TV is out of the question, unless they want to watch 'the race' with my uncle, which doesn't really interest them.

I'd love for my brother or sister to entertain them, but my parent's theory is they're younger, they should be with the adults. So, I get stuck with the little kids. I even ate my Thanksgiving dinner on the floor, around the coffee table with them. This is getting really annoying, and I'd really like for them to be able to entertain themselves, or for their parents to bring something to entertain them.

Try playing Simon Says (you be Simon), Freeze Tag, Red Light/Green Light... do a craft... like take a pinecone put butter on it and roll in oatmeal (uncooked) then hang in a tree and have them watch to see how many birds come... etc... good luck!

Is television out of the question? 3 and 4 yr olds like Barney, Clifford, sesame street...PBS is great for little ones! and more educational with morals. If you are not allowed TV and you would like them to entertain themselves for at least 90 minutes...... (thats 1 1/2 hours) because their attention span is so little a long drawn out game gets boring after awhile start with what works the best, try dress-up and make-up take them out back for a game of kick ball or dodge ball (kids love it when they think they are winning over the "grown-up" this is some ideas. maybe you can prearrange to take them to the park? (you never mentioned if you were a teen or another adult...) good luck in finding what works best...
