I know I am a Baptist and I live in the Northeast but what in the world is a southern Baptist?
People say they are hypocritical do you agree?

A Southern Baptist is a Baptist in the south. That's all. We believe the Bible is Gods word and we take it literally. As far as being hypocrites, there are hypocrites in every walk of life. No one is perfect, that's why Jesus died on the cross for our sins.
And yes, we do believe "Once saved, always saved". But that doesnt mean that you can go through the motions of being saved, then get baptized and then run out and do "all kinds of evil...." like one uninformed person stated here. If you do that, then you were never saved in the first place. Once saved, always saved means that the old nature dies and you recieve the Holy Spirit, which is the new nature (Born Again).

Southern Baptist : A believer of God that follows the Baptist religion, and lives down south!!
There are hypocrites all over...in every religion...so, it's not just S.B.!

Well, there are many cousins in the Baptist family. I'm an Independent, Fundamental Baptist. I don't know what their beliefs are in comparison to mine or yours, but I'd suggest going on line to Baptist websites for more info.

The Southern Baptist is an organization within the Baptist organization that normally does not believe in social drinking, drugs, homosexuality, women usurping authority over the men and many other things other Baptists do believe.
They have their own beliefs that do not always stay with the Bible on religion. One of their tenets is once you are saved you can never be lost even if you do every evil thing there is for the rest of your life.

I am a southern baptist. We are conservative and follow God's word. There are hypocrites in every denomination.

the southern baptist convention originated before the civil war, upholding the biblical morality concerning slavery - they thought it was justified. but to give them some credit, they officially renounced this position in 1995.
