My brother-in-law had a lump come up on his back. The CT scan showed a spot on his lung, liver, and the lesion on his back. I expected the worst. The biopsy revealed stage 4 lung cancer. Several people took him into their prayers, in fact, quite a few people. I asked friends and relatives to pray for him, but I was thinking more about his soul than his life. I figured he was done. Before the Oncologist could even start a chemotherapy routine, the lesion on his back had grown to the size of a small tangerine, larger than a golf ball. After the first treatment, my brother-in-law reported that the tumor had all but disappeared. His pain went away (he was, however, still receiving pain meds which could account for this). A couple days after the Chemo he spoke to the Dr. and asked how quickly he might see results. The Dr. said that he MIGHT see some improvement within a week or two. My brother-in-law saw these results in a single day.
Is this the hand of God at work?

I don't know about other people's being healed either by medicine or spontaneously. I know that there are spontaneous healings or at least recorded that way by Dr.s. I never expected my brother-in-law to do anything but go down hill and die. He may yet.
In fact, it was appointed unto man once to die. He will die, as you and I will surely do, sooner or later.
Maybe God has some purpose for him that he has not fulfilled. Maybe, his body just suddenly realized that this cancer was a bad thing and attacked it.
Maybe this incident was designed to bring some of us back to our faith.

Antihero: I do not know if this is divine intervention or not. He has only had the one treatment so far.
Clearly, the diagnosis is not faulty. The Dr. wants to do more testing after the 3rd treatment. The idea being that if no good progress was being made they would attempt a different treatment.

It all depends on how you look at it. Personally, I like to think that God reveals himself in ways that are both easily understood and taken for granted (the everyday), and in ways that we cannot fathom (miracles). I believe that having a faithful and expectant attitude in life is key to "happiness," that we must interact with God, however we understand him, in order to be complete in ourselves. It seems the situation surrounding your brother-in-law was indeed a miracle of sorts, and certainly the faith and good will of those surrounding him has helped him to recover and tap into God's strength.

It is the work of God! When I was 14, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I had to have 31 radiation treatments, but after I lost all my hair and was swollen up like a blimp because of the steroid drugs that the doctor was giving me, the results came out that the tumor had gotten bigger. At that point I didn't have any reason to hope, until the word got out that I needed help and several churches started to pray for me, not only that, I went to Europe with my congregation and recieved so many blessing visiting all of the holy places, getting blessed with holy water and getting blesssed by a Cardinal in Germany, When I came home, I had another MRI scan and the results were: what used to be the size of a golf ball was now the size of the tip of a pen, it's almost completely gone and I have had no problems with it ever since. My neurologist called it a miracle! God definitely blessed your brother- n-law.

HOWDY plezurgu,

My answer is YES. Like you I hope your brother-in-law is on the way to full recovery. Only time will tell. I will also pray for your brother-in-law.

I am a LONG WAY from being a saint. I believe in GOD, Jesus Christ and the HOLY SPIRIT. I don't go to church and I know I need to and have no reason to keep me from going.

I was injured in Nam when two boxes of land mines fell off a forklift. Each box weighed 960lbs. The land mines did not go off but they crushed me up against a 40 ft. flat bed trailer that I had just pulled in to be unloaded. Yes it did hurt, messed up my insides. The Dr. lost me on the table once and almost again. I believe that GOD kept me alive by working thorough the surgeons hands. Please excuse me if I spell things wrong I ain't the smartest in the world. The Dr. wanted to inform my parents but at the time he was not sure of what ways wrong. I told him forget about it until we knew what was wrong. When he had to operate my parents were notified of what was going on. After all they were 10,000 miles away from me. I still live that night mare. My parents and all my Aunts, Uncles, etc. were praying for me. I made it through. There is a lot more to tell but some other time.

So long for now,
Bulldog

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, "prayer warriors" can do amazing things. No doubt at all -- it IS the hand of God at work. Continue to pray for his salvation, & his health should be covered. Make sure he knows that it wasn't the medical treatments that saved him. Healings happen all the time for which doctors have no explaination, but we know how. The Great Physician is responsible.

Duh he does ... I remember I read the bible once and got a theory from a verse (i forgot what it was) but the verse told me this ... If you say you don't know me I will say the same. - god speaking I used to say dude i don't even know who you are I'm not talking to someone i know but now I don't try and say that after reading this verse .. I am still not the strongest believer but i think God is slowly reeling my in again weather I like it or not hah really everyone knows God personally you just have got to talk to the god in your heart which translates and talks to the God in the sky. I don't think God is there to give you what you want of coarse he can but he usually gives you a better gift by becoming closer to yourself with trials and errors and coming through with success and being a better person .. that's a pretty good gift ... also I think God squeezes in our desires and wants when it could actually benefit you in the way you need.

I am not sure what you are asking. Is it that prayer got rid of the lump on his back, leaving him with cancer in his lungs and elsewhere?

We should not expect God to take care of all the problems of the earth. Sometimes it is best to remember the Lord's Prayer - "Thy will be done." If you think about it, that is kind of scary, if you are hoping for a cure of some disease or rescue from a human or natural disaster.

God does not direct everything - sending down disease on individuals or tornadoes to destroy homes and kill people. Equally, God does not decide on who will get a cure or who will die. That often is decided by nature or the skill of medical personnel.

Given all that, praying helps us get through some very, very awful times.

Yes indeed. Even if your brother is not a believer (as you were asking for prayers concerned for his soul, not health), God has it all in the palm of his hand. Nothing happens that God didn't know would happen or plan. God listened to the prayers of his faithful followers and imparted healing on your BIL. It may not be forever, we have no way of knowing. But you can never go wrong in giving God the credit for healing and miracles. I mean, He IS God!

This crap makes me so mad! Is it god's work that a volcano swallowed an entire island? How bout if you DID get that car loan? Toothache went away? God's work? If you say the lump business was gods will, then is EVERYTHING god's will? You spilled hot coffee on the baby? The baby has cancer? You lost weight, yay, but you gained it all back. God's will? Give me a freakin break! It's LIFE, everyday life. The good and the bad. God's not gonna do just the GREAT stuff and not the bad. Grow up!
