Because that's what it is. It's not designed to be an 'emergency' brake if your standard brakes fail.

Because using the parking brake for an emergency stop is extremely dangerous.

That brake should only be use to keep the car from moving after it has been parked.

Back in the early days, when cars didn't go very fast and the brake systems were cable operated and on the rear wheels only, they were actually used as an emergency brake.

THESE days, it's only for parking. Personally, I NEVER use the dang thing, as I never park on hills.

Because it's supposed to be used when the car is in park and nobody is in it because in park the wheels are locked, but there is no brake keeping it from rolling if that fails. I have seen a guys truck roll back at the gas station without the brake on. I always put mine on, it's the responsible thing to do.

Because you use it when parking, especially on hills, to prevent the car from possibly rolling down the hill. That's the idea anyways, I've never actually seen a car roll away like that unless the driver left it in neutral or someting.

BECAUSE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO USE IT TO PARK . THE BRAKE SET KEEPS PRESSURE OFF YOUR TRANSMISSION ON HILLSIDES . AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS HOLD THE CAR , BUT IF YOUR PARK SETTING EVER POPPED OUT , YOUR CAR WILL HEAD , DOWN THE HILL

FYI SET YOUR PARKING BRAKE ONCE A WEEK AND THEN BACK UP , IT WILL ADJUST THE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTERS AND YOUR REAR BRAKES WILL WORK BETTER
