God created man in his own image. In the simplest of terms you could say for the same reason that people have children. We were created by God for his purpose. God is love and we should be love too-being of his image. But mankind chose instead to reject Gods love and purpose. The suffering occurred due to that choice. Even then God still loves loves us. So much that "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son." John 3:16 And from that action many imperfect people can be redeemed just by accepting Gods forgiveness through Jesus's selfless sacrificial death and resurrection.

He just wanted a relationship with is and Adam and Eve destroyed that relationship when they first sinned. Ever since then our distance from Him has grown more and more distant. The world was a lost bunch with a constant increase in disorder and lawlessness to the point God wanted to start over, but He found righteousness in Noah. Then He chose Abraham to establish law and order and then sent Himself down to Earth as Jesus to die for us and end the curse and wash away our sins and to reconcile our relationship with Him. That's in a nutshell. He loves us and has given us many chances. That's why you have to read the Bible. The more you read it the more you will realize God really loves us, that we are the ungrateful spiteful ones. He gave everyone many chances to reconcile, but they fell victim to their desires. Notice the trend of the Jews who would worship God with all their heart and they were a mighty nation, but as soon as they turned to idols and the way of pagans, they suffered. It's hard to concieve that a God of love would do something so hateful, but when you realize how much we have sinned, then you will appreciate the mercy He has shown us. He waited generations before telling the Jews to do what they did and they refused to listen. How would you feel if you were taking care of someone and you kept giving them everyhting they needed and more and they gave you nothing in return but resentment, kinda like the typical teenager to include myself?

This may make God sound self-centered but He made us to worship and praise Him. To live by His Word and way of life. And those that can do that will surely have a place with Him in heaven!! God Bless.
What other purpose can you think of? We all die..so that tells you we must have a purpose in our afterlife....We don't live life and die for nothing!

Someone to spend time with during all of eternity. Someone to whom He can show love.
Those who think He is unloving often are the ones who have not really known Him...and are unaware of the eternal picture.
