Both use moist heat. But poaching is done w/ a lliquid below a simmer, and food is cooked in it. Poaching usually takes a few minutes. Braising is done in an oven, w/ a lid on a heavy pot, using the liquid in the pot to tenderize the meat. Braising usually takes a couple hours.

Braising- to cook (meat, fish, or vegetables) by sautéeing in fat and then simmering slowly in very little liquid.

Poaching- To cook in a boiling or simmering liquid: Poach the fish in wine.
