Now I know nothing has ever been perfect in the world. Never will be! But with what with it looks like today, it just seems like an impossible task to teach kids, teenagers and young people. About moraity and values. From things like Love, honesty, respect, integrity. All the "traditional" things I guess you can say were taught growing up. To be a decent human. I almost feel I can't take any of it seriously. The same people who teach you these things are the same people you see go against those exact same teachings. You know? I'm 21 and look at the world around me. I look at the older generation and feel like almost everything were taught is a lie. All those things your taught just seemed like lip service. The contradictions in action and words are just so constant!

And yes I know, grown people are people too. No one is perfect like I said!

So it hard to teach values, ethic, morals to the up and coming generation? And really mean it?

The messages are just screwed up!!

I think things such as values and morality are taught to children as young children.I would try to teach my children these values in our daily lives. I told my daughters I never expected more from them than I did of myself. In all honesty the only one you can control is you.You are only accountable for your own actions.I told my daughters you don't do the right thing because you expect a pat on the back you do it because it was the right thing to do.It is so hard to do the right thing when you feel you are the only one doing so.At the end of the day you are only accountable for your actions. If you don't do your best each day the person you hurt the most is you.Look up the words to this Garth Brooks song " The Change". Let me know what you think of it.Take care.

It's not hard to teach children anything. The problem lies with the adults. It's too easy to blame the media, Hollywood and friends (which do have an influence). But one thing all kids/young adults have in common is they all have parents and for whatever reason most parents are failing their kids. And parents I believe are still the most influential person in a young persons life. Parents are failing to teach their kids the tools they will need as (future) adults. A solid foundation established at a young age and lived on a daily basis can counter most of societies bad influences.
Maybe parents are failing because they don't know themselves, maybe because teaching morals and values would contradict the way they live their lives. Maybe their parents failed them and so the cycle perpetuates***

I have used what I think my parents lacked & am turning it around for my 3 kids.

It's sad that as a society most ppl have developed such a liberal attitude. It's sad that many parents rely on the school system/government to raise their child.

i have to agree 100% with mayflower..

i'm not perfect but i notice that most of the kids my daughters age run around town and get into trouble. like knocking on old ppls doors and telling them a kid got shot!!! that old man nearly had a heart attack!! and the kids run off laughing.
no empathy!! or sneak off somewhere they can make out. for cripes sakes their 10 yrs old!!!! where the hell is the supervision???????????
my daughter is supervised 95% of the time. any of her freinds that come over are also supervised.
no i don't lock them up. but if they go out to play they have to stay where i can see them from the window. if they don't they come inside!
i see the lack of guidence every where i look.
sometimes i wonder why i try so hard with my own daughter when she's subjected to these kids that have no bounderies everyday at school??
i want her to have something in her life when she's older. i don't want her pregnant or dieing from some std or screwed up on drugs or a criminal of some sort.
we are into all kinds of activities that keep us busy and involved. things that make a difference. i want her to have good choices.
i think i went off on a tangent!!!!
there are some good parents out there. i am one of them. that might sound like bragging but i'm proud i overcame the abuse of my childhood and didn't carry it over into my daughters life.
and yes it is hard to teach these things. i don't believe any one said it would be easy. don't give up hope just yet.
YOU get to choose what kind of parent you will be.

Thats the trouble with todays world, People DONT teach their children these values. and people today are selfish thinking about me me me. If people actuallt taught their children these things then I beleive that we would have a lot less war and crime. unfortunatly, not enough people do.
