right...
i had this debate with my husband... He is an excellent driver, but i think that so am I. As a woman, i can park in one go, (i find reverse parking easier than front parking) I can drive fast ( but safe) and i can overtake without crushing... I have no points on my licence and i love driving. I drive to work every day and I get to practice more than my hubby. Therefore, i am a better driver. However, my husband thinks he is. How can we get an independent advisor to " decide" ? I want to win, of course!
Women, do you think we are better drivers?

Seeing as each person is an individual, you can not make a blanket statement, but as a male, I feel more comfortable with men driving than I do riding with a woman.

I drive quite a few miles a year (40-60k) and i see more women doing stupid things than men. This does not mean that I do not see men doing stupid stuff too, but as a rule, my opinion is men are better drivers!

Good driving is not a gender related issue. I have spent the last 30 some years as a truck driving instructor and I have seen good and bad in both genders.

It all comes down to the individual, regardless of how they are plumbed. I have had men who could back up a tractor/trailer like they were born in one and others who could find the door with written instructions.

Once I got most women past the "size" of the truck, they were more conscientious, easier on the equipment and didn't second guess my instruction. Men usually have a preconceived idea about what make a vehicle "tick". Women do not. It is harder to break habits in men than it is in women... but good or bad, their gender usually doesn't come into play.

My wife of 25 years and I drove team on a truck for 2 years. I trained her because if I was the one to sleep behind her, I wanted to know that she knew what to do, if necessary. She is an excellent driver, but then again, so am I. :-} With us, it's not a competition, but an appreciation for each others skill.

I hope this helps... and good luck... your situation sounds more like an ego thing than skill based.

How to get an independent adviser- Go to a race track w/your husband and each of you take a turn on the track in a real race car. It's expensive, but if you take a stop watch you'll get your answer. Make sure you both drive the same car so there aren't any excuses. It'll be fun, and give bragging rights. If you win he'll shut up. But if he's faster you'll never hear the end of it. As for who's better, men or women? I'll stay clear of that one. Good Luck!!

I don't think gender has anything to do with one's driving abilities, but more so with mentality, maturity, and responsibility. Their are some pretty heinous male drivers out there. The ones in their luxury sports cars or even the POS Hondas who swerve in and out of traffic, no respect for anyone. Never using a signal, one arm on the wheel, slouched down in their seat like they're the hottest **** in town. But then we come to the female "soccer moms" in their Suburbans and minivans. They can never park in a spot between the lines, they are either traveling 10-20 mph under the speed limit, or flying down the road, yacking on their cell phones. They also lack the knowledge of the ever elusive turn signal, and will slam on their brakes in the middle of the road because they missed a turn or exit. So once again, I don't equate someone's sex with their driving abilities. And BTW, just because you drive more does not mean you are a better driver. The only way I can see how a neutral party can make a decision on who the better driver is would be for them to ride in a vehicle with you and your husband for an extended period of time and observe how you both react to other drivers, speed limits, lane changes, and the overall function if your vehicles.

My Fiance thinks that he is a better driver too but He's not .... Its a man thing .. Im safer then him .. When he's going fast on a back road he's all over the road and if im driving down the same road ... at speeds higher then he did ... Im not all over the road and ummm i dont use my brakes as much as he does .. And one day we decided to test out who could drive better at higher speeds ... He was driving a Ford Focus 2007 and i was driving my Neon 2001 and i beat him by 20 mins ... hahaha... that was great ...

I`d just like to make two points:

1) Insurance companies charge a lower premium for lady drivers than they do for gentlemen drivers. Draw your own conclusions.

2) If you really want to improve the standard of your driving, then take the advanced driving test, and stick to the aims of the Institute of Advanced Motorists if and when you pass it.

Women may not be better drivers but it is a fact that alot more deaths on the roads are caused by men than women so that means that they may not be "better" as in driving and handling a car the way men do, but they are definately far safer and responsible drivers for sure!! thats why it is cheaper to insure women

i think over all that women r the better drivers as they r often calmer in stressful situations (eg rush hr, traffic jam) and take more time over everything, this does not make us slow, safe. although men have better spacial awareness and r usually better at parking etc, women can often acheive the same standard after practice as i have done.
i too find reverse parking easier than forward lol
