do things for the right resons- the love of God.
not the admiration of man.
humility is the hallmark of a truly holy person.
if you love God ,then you need to love your fellow man.
you need not "show off" how "holy" you are.
that is not the point.
the point is pleasing God.
i think that what you mean by being"holy" is to be self righteous and looking down on others as being "unworthy"
we are ALL saved by grace.
and the last time i checked means "getting something that we are not deserving of"
so, they are not being "holy" but being egoistic.
God bless,
gabe

Since the Blood of Jesus makes us holy, we will never be any more or less holy than the moment we are born again...if you could be any more or any less holy than the moment you are covered by the Blood, then the Blood of Jesus can be more or less sufficient to save you......more or less like the blood of bulls and goats...more or less a common thing.

I believe what you are asking is how can one be truly holy -- not self-righteous, or monk/nun like, but truly be holy as a Christian.
The answer is in Galatians 2:20: I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me... We can have right behavior, but our hearts and minds can be thinking and feeling the wrong things.
The way to be holy, once one is a Christian, is to stay close to God. It DOES require reading the Bible, studying God's word (to listen to Him) and prayer (talking to Hiim). In this way God flows through us, what we do is truly from the new heart and spirit God gave us, and people see God in our works. We are not TRYING to be holy -- but God is doing it through us. We are not conscious of our holiness (or lack thereof), we are simply trying to stay close to God, by being where He wants us to be, so that we are available to be His arms, legs, mouth and ears. Then, when we least expect it -- we're holy.

I myself never wanted to be a 'holy' person. Spiritual yes, believe in Christ as Saviour yes, but certainly not 'holy'.

can you be dead for a week without really being dead for a week? (not a false death to escape the IRS, a real death)

By being both sinner and saint.
sinner according to the flesh and a saint according to the imputed righteousness of Christ.
