I,m going to buy a Sony A100 camera ,i already have compatible lenses from a former Minolta SLR(film) camera. One is the MinoltaAF28-80,and the other a Sigma 70-210mm.However,the camera i want to buy has a kit model for only $50.00 more, than just the body. The kit lens is 18-70mm.Do you think i should get the kit or just the body?Do the kit lenses have the same lens range,as the film lenses?

When going to digital from film, theres a difference in how the sensor size is smaller than a patch of 35mm film. In essence this adds a crop factor. You can not get as wide a shot with a digital camera as you could with a film camera, so a wider lens is necessary. 28mm is actually pretty wide, but if you were concerned about it, get the kit lens. You could always sell the 28-80 if you found you had no need of it.

Your Minolta AF28-80, on your Sony A100 has a crop factor of 1.5. That gives you the same view as a 42-120mm lens. You really need the 18-70mm kit lens for any wide angle shots. It will probably be the most useful lens for interior and scenic shots.
