I really want to have a double major in business and either vocal performance or musical theatre.
When I graduate, I want to have a well-paying job that I can get with my business degree.
But I also want to perform.
So is it possible to have a regular job and still perform in the community?

Yes, and its smart to know business when trying to make it in music!! You can always do gigs on the weekends when youre not working! Thats how I started out, until I was lucky enough to gig regularly and skip the whole day job thing- but then i dont have a degree in anything either, and I sure wish I had finished college!!!! Congrats on making a wise choice!

Are you kidding me? All you have to do is walk into a community theatre house and you will meet loads of people who work during the day and live at the theatre in the evenings. Community theatre houses don't pay (and if they do it's not much), so unless your spouse earns a healthy paycheck or you're independently wealthy you're gonna have a job too. It takes a little balancing to not go crazy, but enough people have mastered it that it can't be too bad.

I know a woman who has more than mastered the skill. She is a guidance counselor at a high school and the school's drama club director. She is involved in either directing or acting in at least 5-6 shows a year and has, at least once, been directing the drama club musical, a community theatre show, AND acting in a show. All at the same time. Of course she lives independently, with only her two cats and a half-blind, all-deaf, dog at home (he gets around using his nose). But it can be done.
