like if i mixed half a cup of water and half a cup of oil and opposed to using a whole cup of oil

NO! Never put water in hot oil, it will splatter and burn you!

I agree with everyone else. This is not an exception, but if you are frying something like sausages, you can start with water in the pan, halfway up the sides of the sausages, to make sure they don't stick. By the time the water is boiled away, enough fat will have come off the sausages to continue cooking.

NO _ This is a Fire hazard. If you are looking to reduce the amount of fat you get from deep frying switch to a low fat option like canola or peanut - but never mix water and oil unless it is in a salad dressing and served cold.

The only time you can do this is when you call 911 first and have your insurance cards readily available

I tried this as a youngster
.
The grease spatters and when it does you get burned

Not only that, it doesn't work and you have a very big mess to clean up

that would be a very bad idea even if you tried it the water would probably boil away first.
