Well, it's a matter of huge debate. But it's certainly not unreasonable to argue that dropping the A-bombs saved lives.
Had they not done it, they would have had to launch a sea-borne invasion of the Japanese islands. That would have led to huge numbers of casualties.
The world was engulfed by the worst conflict in human history. Nobody was in any position to criticize America for finally putting it all to an end as quickly as possible.
People can look back on it critically to day, but at the time there was no Allied opposition to such a move.
One of the above posters was right too. If you look back at all the data and statistics, Imperial Japan caused far more death and suffering than Hitler and the Nazis did. But the fact is that the developed world places more focus and importance on the suffering and death of Europeans than Asians.

Lets see. It is est that over 2 million Japenese would have died with upper est of 10 million. Somewhere around 600,000 Americans would have dead or wounded....or two Atomic bombs.
After WW2 the US did this little thing called the Marshall plan. Oh yeah and helped to rebuild Japan..the country that pulled a sneak attack...
Amoung others but then you already have your mind made up

You have a very simplistic and naive attitude, the only country who was p i s s e d off with the bomb being dropped was Japan.
The use of the bombs saved an estimated 5 MILLION US and ALLIED Casualties, it also forced the Japanese to surrender, which prior to the threat of being bombed they refused.
It also freed the hundreds of thousands of people in the following countries:
China, Taiwan, Philippines, Indo-China, Burma, Indonesia, North Borneo, hundreds of Pacific Islands etc..etc. . . who had been living under a reign of terror with hundreds of thousands being killed while being used as slave laborers, and the ill treatment of Prisoner-of-War. It also ended the Japanese experiments on live P.O.W's who were being used as guinea-pigs for chemical warfare experiments.
The Japanese, still gloss over their WW2 military record, very little being admitted in their modern school history books.
So, Little Troll, I do not think your rant bares any connection to the real events of the time, as the people freed from the Japanese have no problem with the United States dropping the bombs!!!

My friend as long as you are asking I will tell you why...it is called the economy. The bombs were dropped because of the attack on Pearl Harbour, where 3589 military and civilians were killed, Japan would not listen even though the Americans informed the Japanese first before doing so.
The countries throughout our planet do business with the US because they are a country who are renowned for their generousities....the past 62 yrs the world has not learned anything regarding wars, as long as we build weapons of mass destruction and sell them for big bucks, their will always be a war.

The US Dropped the bombs. However, the Manhattan project was a joint operation with the US, Canada and the UK. All three countries agreed to the use of the bomb. They were just carried by US planes.

Millions of lives were saved in Japan as well as at least one million American lives. Nothing major about the two atomic bombs. Know why we didn't bomb tokyo with one? We already had burned the city down with thousand plane B29 raids. The only thing with the atom bombs is it took only one plane instead of a thousand.

Oh, and Japan was working on an atom bomb too. History Channel had a nice program that reported that Japan detonated an atom bomb in Korea 4 days after Hiroshima. Seems it had about a 6 kiloton yield.
Try reading about Japanese activity in WWII. The Rape of Nanking is interesting about Japanese soldiers throwing babies in the air and catching them on bayonets. They killed well over 1 million in Nanking. Also did germ warfare and live vivisections on Chinese cand Americans. And I personally knew US soldiers who experienced the Bataan Death March.

Well, I guess you don't really care that Imperial Japan was the single most brutal, racist, and genocidal rape machine of the 20th century.........They turned Korea into a barn of sex slaves, used Chinese (live) people for bayonnnet practice and chemical experiments, ate villagers in Kalimantan for crying out loud, not to mention invaded raped and pillaged asia.
To make matters worst, an invasion of Japan would have meant that MANY MANY more Japanese would have been killed than were by the a-bomb.....so in effect we SAVED millions of them.

The Japanese where so cruel and murderous at that time nobody cared. Most countries where happy the US did it. Japan had hundreds of thousand of slave labors taken from China, Korea, and from Allied POWs. They planned to kill them all as soon as the Americans invaded. It saved all their lives.

you need to remember history. we ended ww2 and saved countless lives on both sides. secondly, once we saw what it could do, the US CAME OUT AND SAID WE NEED TO BANN THESE WEAPONS!! We saw that it was more than any country should use and then we outlawed them and asked every nation to bann together and prevent others from using them. thats why every country doesnt want any other to get them.
