i have never had a tattoo numbed and i have not heard of any tattoo shops that do it or endorse it. it seems like most of the people who have done it are from england.
having had quite a bit of tattoo work done, the pain really isn't THAT bad. i mean it hurts but it's nothing life changing and really the pain is forgotten by the time the itching starts.

I am an LPN and have a very dear friend that is an RN that owns his own tattoo shop in Blacksburg, VA. He is the only tattoo artist around(in southwestern VA)that uses lidocaine before tattooing. He uses a lidocaine gel that is applied topically before tattooing begins. He tells me that his customers LOVE it. I would assume the reason it didn't work for a piercing was because only the epidermis is being numbed(top layer of skin)- and piercings go through all layers.Tattooing, of course, doesn't go that deep. Again,I am not a tattoo artist. I am just giving you some hopefully helpful info from what I have learned from others. My friends shop is called Rendezvous Tattoo and is located in Blacksburg,VA. His name is John- go on line for the address and phone number and give him a call. I'm sure he would be happy to answer any questions you may have. I hope this helps.Good Luck !

I have never heard of someone numbing it, but most of the time when getting tattooed you go numb if its a lot of work on it but they dont hurt that bad to get them numbed anyway part of getting it is the pain of it if there wasnt pain everyone would get one

some say it works. To be honest one of our artists was having his fingertips done .. he said its a lie and it doesnt help in any way shape or form.

They also commented it was harder to get the ink to stay in with the numbing agent being used.
