The number ablove is read as any cardinal number [the numbers you use to COUNT]: un(a), dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, seis, siete, etc.

The number below will be singular IF the above is 1... and plural if the number above is not 1.
The number below is read as the ordinal [numbers when you give an ORDER] number, except for 2 (which is medio) and 3 (which is tercio): medio, tercio, cuarto, quinto, sexto, séptimo, etc.
BUT.. be careful. The ending -ésimo is for cardinals ONLY. If you have -ésimo in ordinal, change it to -avo for fractions.

Examples:

2: dos
2º: segundo
1/2: un medio

5: cinco
5º: quinto
1/5: un quinto

20: veinte
20º: vigésimo
1/20: un veinteavo

31: treinta y uno
31º: trigésimo primero
1/31: un treintaiunavo
