To obtain a new product key for your Office program in the United States, call 1-800-936-5700 and speak to a Microsoft customer service representative. Outside of the United States, call the number that appears in the activation wizard.
When you call Microsoft for a new Office product key, have the following items available for the customer service representative:
The product CD-ROM
The computer on which you want to install Office
The readable parts of your original product key (if available)

you cannot get a :generic" product key; product keys are a type of security device so that you cannot steal anything from microsoft. You will have to buy a new SP2, thats all there is to it. Also, you did not have to spend your money on a SP2 anyhow, you could have just downloaded it from microsoft.com; however, you cannot do this now. Sorry for your unfortunate situation.

Try looking on the outside of your computer. You might find the Windows XP key on a little sticker.

You can retrieve it from the registry Start>run>regetit
There are in fact two entries, both called
"ProductKey", one under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion and another in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WinNT\CurrentVersion.
