When you say "answered" do you mean they don't get what they ask for? Are you suggesting that because the gods don't humor our every whim or demand they must not exist?
I can't speak for anyone else, but I am religious because I believe in beings that deserve our respect and whom I communicate with. They are a guidance, but that doesn't mean they give me everything I want. I fact, they give me much of anything tangible,a lthough they do help me figure out what is important and how to work toward getting them myself.
Religion is not about getting what you want. That's an extraordinarily selfish approach to religion. one of the things that religion has taught me is that there are more important things in this world than me.

Perhaps they are talking to the wrong deity...one who can't answer their prayers. ...and even if they are talking to the real God, some just don't like the answer and refuse to hear it. My son doesn't hear me say "no" or "not yet" most of the time when he really wants something, why would he (or anyone else) react differently when God tells them "no" or "not yet".
...and then again, there are the people that ignore God until they want something...why would they then expect him to answer when they don't listen to anything else he has to say. If my son chooses not to clean his room when I tell him to do so, should he expect that I'll say "yes" when he later asks me for a treat or a toy?

We should respect every life including Deity, all super natural being or genie.
We do not have the right to hate, to harm or take their life.
Deity are not present in this world to be your slave, maid, security guard, or genie to serve you like a slave.
One harming others are creating bad energy & the result of your cause is bad chemical reation or anger are planted in them.
If you have cause others to leave without peace and heart sick.
Finally you suffer because the same energy are bouncing directly back and will be absorbed by you.
Even human have the wisdom to know the law of - each are responsible for your action.
Example: The death sentence to an evil man who is intelligent but zero wisdom, he rapped & killed a lady.
Can he bring a lot of offerings, pray day & night to the mighty God for forgiveness & to escape from the death sentence.
Well! The Diety are not stupid, they are not easily to be cheated or bribe & they know the law of cause & result.
The sincere, noble or virtuos person, he leads the righteous life, compassionate & contributes his effort to the world.
He always caltivate right speech, action, likelihoon, effort, mindfulness, concentration, thought and view in his life.
He avoid all harmful action. This are the wise person and worthy to be respected by all. Everybody and including the Diety like to help them when they are in trouble.
Finally we are responsible to create a nice & peaceful world for ourself & many. God will welcome him to the heaven.

What say I? I say ALL prayers are answered, they're just not always answered how and when the person who's praying wants them.
I've had a prayer answered 10 years after I asked.

Does God answers all prayers? My answer is YES if you consider NO as an answer. Does He hears your prayer? My answer is YES if you come to Him with a pure heart. Does God gives even if you don't ask? My answer is YES! HE gave you life!! Did you ask for it? Who is this God?
I am referring to the God who created everything in the world according to the Scripture. My question is: To whom these billions you're referring to direct their prayers?

How do you know they are not answered? Not answered in the way you think it should be? Some times the things we pray for are not in the Father's will..they must be in his will to be answered...If you ask him to help you make more money,,,than your brother,,,,,then No,,he won't...God sees what our future is, so he knows what is best for us.
People can be quite cruel to another but since God gave man free will to choose,,,he will allow one man to hurt another,,,if he interfered then we wouldn't have free choice. It is man who causes all the problems you see...not God...he will turn things for good that are bad, for those who love him. But the prayers of a sinner, he will not hear.
He does not hear the prayers of the unsaved unless it to repentance...John 9:31 "Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshiper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth."
This tells us if a person is calling out to God to save them, he will hear them because it is coming from his heart. But if that person is not calling out to God to save them, God doesn't hear them. A Christian's prayers comes from the heart, but if someone is sinner or a backslider, their prayers comes from their lips only.
