....does that mean that merely thinking about accepting Jesus as one's savior is good enough to get into Heaven, and one doesn't actually need to accept him?

Ya know, if thinking about adultery is the same as doing it, what the hell, go right ahead.

Bzzzzztt. Sorry. Backup a bit on the lust part. heh

One must start w/ a proper definition of lustfully, which in this matter of sin is an "intent" to have relations w/ the other person.

Basically, for say a healthy male, it's not sinful to look at a woman and appreciate the physical beauty and recognize an attraction. Even saying hmmm boy I'd love to...but I can't.

As opposed to saying, if I ever got the chance I WOULD.

That's full consent of the will. A big no no.

Plus notice the warning on the woman as well not to have the "intent" to draw a man't lust,

"whoever who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart"

So don't commit adultery "with her".

Yet hopefully you still choose heaven. heh

Well, that's christian spin. And I think the adultery thing is just a hysterical means by which the church controls its congregation.

Every religion has some paltry hoop to jump through in order to get into heaven; fast for a day or a week, pray to some psycho zombie, give up ridiculous things as a show of martyrdom, wear funny clothing, don't cut your hair, etcetcetc.

Religion as mind control.

But kudos on finding the loophole in christianity!

Does thinking about eating a package of cookies make you fool? I do understand why you are asking that. God really opposes of adultery. He even compares idolatry to an adultress people. I am a Christian, and I am very slim. I don't know about you but I think I'm going to go eat some cookies.

You can't put those two together under the same catagory. Adultry is a sin and accepting Jesus is the one thing to get you into heaven.

Definitely. That is why I get to get horizontal with Brad Pitt at the Pearly Gates and it is all sinful and forgiven at the same time.

Like most, you are not reading these verse carefully.

Mat 5:27-28
27. "You have heard that it was said, `You shall not commit adultery';
28. but I say to you, that everyone who looks on a woman to lust for her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Now, if you look at a woman *to* lust for her, that is committing adultery with her in your heart. Nothing about thinking about physical adultery = committing physical adultery.

You don't need to have it both ways (as 1 answer said). You just need to read scripture carefully.

George Carlin has an interesting spin on this topic. Logically one would think so. However, very few religions and logic go hand in hand.

Aren't you supposed to love jesus with your heart and soul? I would think you probably have to totally commit yourself to loving jesus and god. not that i believe in that kind of thing. i think its all nonsense. no offense. to each his own right?

"As good"? although Jesus said that lust and adultery are both sins – that does not mean they are equal. ie., it is much worse to actually murder a person than it is to simply hate them – even though they are both sinful in God’s sight.
