I never got an answer.... IF GOD CAN DO ANYTHING, CAN HE MAKE A ROCK A CAN'T HE MOVE?

By the way.... I was 4 years old at the time I asked this question. The teacher was frustrated and "passed" on the question because it wasn't what 4 year olds were supposed to ask.... this was a Methodist church in northwest Indiana.

Jesus CHRIST folks, I was 4 YEARS OLD!!!!!

However, based upon the dogmatic rhetoric, philosophical postulations, and outright maniacal rants, it's no wonder my poor teacher passed on the question!!

KC~ What in the world are you talking about?? I left a rude comment? What? Where you unhappy with a response I posted to a question and you followed me to this forum to post a rude comment on my question? I honestly don't understand your personal attack! Nor will I dignify your rude and immature behaviour with anything other than this retort.

No offense, but it's a nonsensical question. Yes, there is such a thing. Sort of like the old Groucho Marx question: "So tell me, have you stopped beating your wife?" If you demand a "yes" or "no" answer, neither may be correct. You may also want to keep in mind that everything God does serves an important purpose, otherwise He doesn't do it. Hence the reason why so many people's prayers seemingly go unanswered. He is not a trickster, a bell hop, a magician, or anything we want or expect Him to be. He is who He is. We learn to accept that, or we struggle with His very existence, and then usually our own.

Rocks are a part of Gods creation, they're God in their own deminsion and move at their own will. The earths crust is always moving an broken down are really rocks within rocks. Ever been in an earthquake? I think this is the rocks moving to adjust themselves.

God cannot do what isn't actually possible to be done, like creating a two-sided triangle, or a married bachelor.the reason he cannot do these things is because of his nature and the nature of reality itself.. just because words can be strung together this way does not make the impossible possible - these things are contradictions, they are truly impossible in reality. now, what about this rock? a rock would have to be infinitely large to defeat an infinite amount of lifting power. but an infinite rock is a contradiction since material objects cannot be infinite. only God is infinite. there cannot be two infinites. so the question is actually asking if God can make a contradiction - which he cannot.

A spiritual idea never has dominion over the One who created it. Therefore nothing can object to God's will. But to truly understand, the basis of thought must be spiritual and the material basis must be parted with.

i live NW indiana, too

anyways, to answer your question, your making the implication that a human can fully comprehend God. if God can do anything, can he also make humans believe omnipotence is a fallacy, when it really is not? of course he can. in fact, it wouldn't be too unusual if he did, seeing as the point of Faith is to believe through intuition, as opposed to logic.

I think the closest analogy the we as humans can relate to would be the question:

"Can you suffocate yourself by holding your breath?"

This would sort of be the God equivalent of trying to make an unmovable rock.

There is nothing that God cannot do. Therefore God cannot make a rock that even He can't move.
