Depends on the person. If they are quiet or shy, yes. If they are less likely to be embaressed and you aren't likely to be embaressed if they say no, plan something a little more romantic. By them a flower and write a note to go with it and leave it somewhere they'll be sure to recieve it, like their homeroom. Somewhere you'll be able to run into them not to long after for an answer.

Tell the truth and just ask. Just ask the girl to go to what ever you had planned or ask her what she wants to do. Life is easy when you are truthful. Just ask. Rejection is only painful for a minute. I said yes to a lot of boys who were to scared and walked away leaving me baffled. I had to tell boys more than once yes. Look in her eyes and not your shoes. Shine those shoes first and your pride will shine in your eyes. "May I have the pleasure of having a date with you?"

in a class one day my friend met this guy that she thought was really cute. she said something that he strongly agreed with one class period and he jokingly said that he wanted to marry her for it. the next day she wrote him a note and folded it up all nice. inside it said "i like to get to know people before i marry them...let's start with a first date?"
and they've been together ever since :]
so to make my point...no. there are WAYY cuter ways of asking someone out than just doing it. creativity goes a long way with girls

make it as nonchalantly and no-pressure as possible, because you have a better chance of getting a yes.
Try something like this: after talking with her for a while...making small talk, laughing, kidding around, etc (she has to be enjoying the conversation otherwise don't even try), say something like (after laughing at something she says) "Your sense of humor is crazier than mine is! Hey, we're going to the movies saturday afternoon, you should come with us!!" (then start teasing with her) "Or are you too scared? Huh? Huh?"
"Seriously, though, if you want to hang out at the movies with us were going on saturday....well, give me your number and I can give you a call..."
See how that worked? You showed her that you liked something about her (her sense of humor) enough to want her company as you went and did something you were going to do anyway - going to the movies. She feels no pressure in saying yes because it is, after all, just hanging out. Once you get her to hang out, then treat her nice and make her laugh and have a good enough time that she will want to hang out with you again. Thats how you get a girl to like you. You have to break that "comfort" barrier first before anything else can happen. Once she feels comfortable around you then she will be more herself. Once she feels more like she can be herself around you, she will enjoy being around you more. That leads to getting to know her better, and dropping subtle hints that you are "into" her more than just friends, without laying it on too strong will make it easier for her to feel comfortable with any feelings she develops for you.
But if you want her to tell herself "he likes me but I'm not sure if i feel the same way, so I better not say 'yes' to him because he might get the wrong impression" then go ahead and use the ol':
"Hi. I was wondering if you would like to go to the movies with me this saturday?"
