I was reading a question about an expander and they said it hurt so bad but i got one 2 days ago and mine didn't hurt at all. Does it normally hurt, or is it just me?

I think only if they sit on you.

I had an expander that eventually broke the bone that runs up the roof of the mouth. I had a little key that I put in every night and turned it towards the back of my throat, then the key would fall out and it was on a chain so I couldn't choke and accidentally ingest it. It bothered me and it was difficult to talk. Eventually I didn't have to use the key and then I just waited for the bone to fill in and WALAH. I have beautiful straight teeth. I assume that's what your expander is all about? Teeth? I'm guessing. That's my story. I hope it helps and I hope it doesn't hurt. Ciao

My expander hurt an awful lot. It's the pushing that hurts more than when I got it put in. I hope that your's is much more bearable than it was for me, it really just depends on the person.

When the expander is spread, it may ache a little as it's forcing things into a position they're not used to being in. Yours may hurt later on, or it may not. Everyone's different.

The only things that really hurt when I went through all the braces nonsense for me was when they put the little brackets on and they cut up my lips, everything else kind of ached...I am a big weenie when it comes to mouth pain. Do you have a high pain tolerance to start with? Maybe your Dr. is just that good...

My brother had an expander for about 8 months. His didn't hurt at first cuz he took Advil to take away the pain, but when he had to get it cranked tighter, it hurt like crazy. then when he got the expander taken out, they ripped out one of the teeth it was connected to!

I have a spreader... I don't know if we're talking about the same thing here, but mine hurt like crazy for an hour or so every time they spread it.

My daughters only hurt right after we widened it. Tylenol did the trick.
