There are a few different medicines that will help you goto the bathroom. First however i would try a stool softener. This is different from a laxative in that it doesn't contract the muscles in your intestines (bowel movements) that cause you to feel the urge to goto the bathroom. The stool softeners simply soften the stool to make it easy to go to the bathroom. Docusate Sodium is a stool softener (comes in different generic brands but the main brand is Colace) that I would try first.
If this doesn't work then try Exlax or Doculax or Fleet Phosphosoda; all of these are laxatives that will cause you to goto the bathroom. If you take these I would not leave the house for a while as you won't know exactly when it will kick in. There are enemas (suppositories) that you can stick up the anus to cause bowel movements (try fleet enema).
Adult diapers include Depends which is the one I am most familiar with. I would goto your local Walgreens or drugstore to pick these up. They have different sizes that come in small/medium and large. Hope this helps, stay healthy.

My daughter's doctor said the best thing for constipation is pear juice. she said it works quickly and doesnt cause the problems that OTC medicines and prescription meds cause. If you are sure you need a medication, correctol works great without causing very many cramps or nausea, so does myralax*it is technically a stool softener*. My daughter had to use the myralax and it worked great. No cramps, or side effects and it was really quick. hope that helps!
As far as adult diapers go, Depends is the best brand that I have heard of. I think Tranquility is another one that my grandmother used to use. I can't think of any others though.

Metamucil is a fiber laxative you mix in juice. Prune juice is a natural way to keep regular, and you can try several tablespoons of Karo syrup in a half glass of warm water. Given at night is should get you moving by morning.
As far as adult diapers I usually buy the store brand for our clients as it is less expensive. You can put a Kotex or Poise pad inside for a little added protection.

Is this for an elderly person? Then I would ask a physician. If this is for another adult I would still ask a physician if they are unable to sit on a toilet after taking a laxative. Are you pregnant? Then you should consult your obgyn before taking ANY laxative.

You can use a laxative, like metamucil, colace, etc, for regulation issues or a stimulant lazative for more severe constipation like peri-colace.
