Advantage. Its the only one I've found to work in every situation. Frontline did nada to stem a flea problem we had at our old house, but one application of Advantage took care of the whole thing.

Have you tried Frontline, Revolution or Advantage. Get it from the vet or some pet stores. It's high, but works. And if you need to get rid of an out of control infestation, get a Capstar pill from the vet. The fleas fall off within 30 minutes and then follow with one of the above flea controls. I've never had success with anything from Walmart or any store like that. In fact, some of those products can hurt a cat and even in some cases, kill your cat.

Frontline, Advantage, Revolution or Advocate. These are the only ones worth bothering with really. Frontline Plus is my personal fave.

Nothing from a pet stores works, don't bother. Pick up a treatment from your vet, and get a housespray while you're there. There's no reason you have to take the fleas to your new house.

You have to fight the infestation on multiple fronts by;
treating the dog
treating your home (even if your moving, cause eggs are on furniture, rugs, etc...)
treating your yard if you have one.

You need to kill the adults, eggs and larva, and ensure that any future infestations are rendered sterile and incapable of producing viable eggs by employing an insect growth regulator or "IGR" for short.

First shampoo with SENTRY PRO® Flea & Tick Shampoo for Dogs. It kills everything and has an IGR as well. If you cant find it make sure you find one with an IGR as well as an insecticide like pyrethrin.

The next morning apply a spot-on treatment like Zodiac or Frontline, both of which kill adults and render any future invaders sterile. Whatever brand be sure it uses an IGR.

After that you need to treat the home by spraying the most heavily trafficked areas and animals bedding with zodiac carpet spray , or easier fog the flat with a flea bomb. Zodiacs spray and bomb both have an IGR and insecticide, as do many brands. Just be sure the one you pick does as well.
The drawback to bombs is that they dont get under furniture or beds, and cover every surface, not just where its needed.

Lastly, if you have a yard, use a pump sprayer to apply archer to the outside areas.

I just did this for my cat who was infested as well, and its worked wonders.

I'm pretty chemically sensitive so I was concerned about these products at first, but Ive noticed no side effects and its evident they are effective immediately with no waiting. Overnight the problem can be solved and future problems averted.

Please, please don't use Frontline with an Aussie. This medication's active ingredient is Ivermectin, which can cause a fatal reaction in herding breeds. Unless you know 100% that your puppy's bloodline is not Ivermectin sensitive, the risk is not worth it.

I use Advantage on my Border Collie puppy. We live in an historic neighborhood in the downtown area of our city, and there are lots of dogs and an active flea problem. Our puppy has had regular contact with the neighborhood dogs since receiving her full series of shots, and she has never had a single flea. For this reason alone I would recommend the Advantage; doubly so because you also own a herding breed.

Advantage, or Frontline, generally. Frontline seems to be more harsh on the skin, and a couple of my rescued kitties had a reaction to it. Currently, I'm using Zodiac Spot On, because the guy at the petstore said it was a good one.... I'm not impressed with it at all.

REVOLUTION... that is the BEST you can get. It kills fleas, eggs and treats the environment the animal lives in....I don't know if it is available outside Canada though. Advantage is also good but you can't bathe your dog after applying the topical. Revolution, you can groom your dog 2 hours after treatment. Very very good stuff! Also safe to use on young animals and nursing mom's. Just my opinion of course!

We used to use frontline, but then decided to go with only natural methods. Garlic powder on our dog's food seems to do the trick.
