I guess fear would depend on your pre-conceived notions about God. Used to be, God was portrayed as this fearsome, all-powerful judge of souls. I didn't grow up that way though. My parents instilled in me the idea that prayer was just a natural conversation with God and could be done whenever and wherever. I don't see myself as equal to God, by any means, but I find that I am very comfortable talking to Him because I do it all the time. I see Him more as a loving parent, and being a parent myself and knowing how I feel about my own kids, I just don't see a reason for fear.
As for the snake, yeah, I'd have been scared too. The snake wasn't God.

"And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak to you, saying, show a miracle for you: then you shall say to Aaron, Take your rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so as the Lord had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent. Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now, the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods." Exodus 7:8-12.
I don't know which version you've gotten your information from, but I can't find it in my KJV, or any other version I own. Sounds like it's the Cecil B. DeMIlle version, starring Charlton Heston. That particular movie is full of errors. Hollywood added lots of stuff that isn't in the original story, in order to add more drama. Actually, the original story had enough drama in itself, without the help of Hollywood. <*)))><

Well moses didnt know that God was going to turn it into a snake. Also wouldnt you be surprised if it turned into a snake? It was also one of the first miracles he has performed.

I don't think Moses feared God....I think Moses feared the snake. God turned the staff into a snake so Moses would know that it was truly God who spoke to him.

They obviously did not believe, as the Lord said etc, that he had appeared to them. The Lord obviously got it wrong.
Why did he not just give him a staff in the first place, it would appear to be the most logical thing to do.

If i threw a stick on the ground, and it turned into a giant snake, I'd jump away too.
Of all the passages of the bible why critique this one that just has to do with human instinct to avoid things that kill.

It wasn't moses who made a stick into the snake, it was God.... I'd run if an inanimate object came to life...
