During gym class when I`m excercising, I seem to have a really hard time breathing when I`m not excercising too hard.
I have never had any history of Asthma, and no one else in my family has asthma. Are there any other lung diseases that I could have?
I will be going to the doctor, this is just to research some diseases I think I may have, to see if I may have them.
Thanx for your help

There is something called exercise induced asthma. It only happens when you exercise. Other times you are ok. They have tests they can run to check you for this. Also, they have medications to take before you exercise. Some kids grow out of it by adulthood.
Good Luck.

You probably have exercise induced asthma. It's symptoms are tightness in the chest and difficult breathing within 20 min. of beginning exercise.

To rule out other problems, see a doctor, but s/he will probably tell you the same thing. You might request an albuterol inhaler and an actuator (albuterol doesn't seem to make you put on weight, unlike other asthma medications such as prednisone). Take the inhaler about 10-20 min. before you begin exercise and symptoms will disappear or will be greatly reduced.

Try to refrain from taking it at any other time or you may become dependent on the medicine and, speaking from experience, it's very difficult to get independent of the meds. You have a difficult time breathing without taking the medicine regularly.

People who have never had asthma and do not otherwise have asthma can get it when they exercise. Exercise releases free radicals, which can cause inflammation in the body, and that's probably why people can get EA. 1 in 3 athletes has this condition.

Other possibilties are bronchitis, emphysema (and other smoking-related diseases, if you, your parents, or anyone you spend a lot of time with smokes), and walking pneumonia. If you have walking pneumonia, you have difficulty breathing and even regular, light activities tire you out.

Hope you feel better.
