I don't believe in the Christian "heaven" but I do believe in an afterlife, and I think the spirits of our loved ones can see us and hear us, and sometimes they try to communicate with us.

That is a very personal question and not every one will give you the answer that will necessarily please you.
If you believe that they can see you from up in heaven than they can.
Are you are afraid of that belief for instance, you can't get by in life with the thought someone is watching me from heaven, or I have to speak to them knowing they can hear me in heaven.
Well than honey no one can answer that with certainty in this life, unless they have come back from dead.
You have to hold on to what you want to believe be strong don't be swayed and have faith in yourself.

My beliefs are kinda out of the mainstream but here they are:
1. The Bible says in Hebrews there is a great crowd (suggesting diversity) of witnesses watching what we're doing. If these were only angels why doesn't it just say that?
2. At the end of Matthew when Jesus is resurrected it says he went to hell to preach the gospel & others rose with Him & were seen by their loved ones. What good would it do to preach to an unconscious spirit? How could someone unconscious make a choice? It also says he conquered death & hell. So why would a christian ever have to see death? It's just a passing over from the body to spirit. I believe there is a place between heaven & the grave where our spirits linger awaiting to change into immortal flesh, the body goes back to dust. Maybe like another dimension. Even in Rev. the blood of the martyrs are calling out oh Lord how much longer must we wait. Does that sound like a spirit sleeping? Since only the conscious body knows time it would be like a sleep. Spirits aren't bound by time so even an eternity would seem like sleeping then waking.
Hubby said he thought it would be too hard & cruel emotionally to see those you love in pain, being hurt, etc. & unable to do anything. But being in spirit they would understand better what was going on & why. Plus wouldn't they have a more direct communication to God on our behalf? Then the Lord could send an angel to convey their love or meet our need in such a way it comforted instead of making us afraid.
Mediums are condemned in the Bible yet Saul had a medium bring up Samuel. When he crossed from eternity into visible form in a sense it was like waking him from his sleep because wherever that place is I imagine is peaceful & w/o conflict. Plus men tend to worship & believe in other things, people, etc. instead of worshipping God. Maybe that's why we aren't to disturb them.
Sometimes when I talk to my dad at his grave when I'm upset something he said or did in the past that for all intents was forgotten will come to mind & help or comfort me. Why couldn't the Lord rise that thought up from the deep recesses of my mind right when I need it? Or my guardian angel whisper it in my ear?
I don't really believe they hear us per se. But there are times I tell the Lord to tell dad I haven't forgotten him & will always love him. We are a product of all those who enter our lives even for a brief period of time. That love lives on, just on another plane or dimension. A place that isn't supposed to be disturbed by those in the flesh. But I do believe they can see us. Maybe even intercede on our behalf.
A little out of the norm but I don't think it's wrong. Just different.

I remain an agnostic and am not sure they are in heaven but I have in the past attended a spiritualist church and believe that I was contacted by more than one of my relatives who have gone before. I have been given names and messages that I identified as coming from them. Think what you will.

No, because our loved ones are not in heaven, they are simply dead. The Bible says "the living are conscious that they will die but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing.” So how can the dead think about and remember or care for and love you if the Bible says that they are conscious of nothing?

No. The bible is quite clear about this. There is no awareness of anything after death. The Lord Jesus compared death to a sleep. The dead will be resurrected sometime in the future, but this has not happened yet.
God is a God of love and he would not want our loved ones tortured by being aware of things on earth without having any power to act.

Your loved ones are right beside you, not on some far off cloud called heaven.
They hear every word that you say to them.
Love and blessings Don

The bible is very clear that they can't. They neither see, hear nor remember anything we do or have done and neither have they any interest in it. The dead have moved on to be dealt with as Jesus sees fit. We are also warned not to try to speak to the dead. Many people open themselves up to talking with spirits but they are definitely not of the dead and definitely not of God. The dead do not intercede for us. Jesus is the only priest and intercessor and prayer to dead people is in the same class as spiritualism. Totally unacceptable to God and spiritually harmful.

O' yes they can I have seen all my loved ones and spoke to them. I just get annoyed when they don't come often enough, they come to me in dreams. They look a lot younger, and sometimes they will tell you of things to come. When they come to me all their disabilities are gone, my step father was blind before he died, when he came into my dream he told me his sight was perfect, and he show me his grandson yet to be born.
