Why are the most LIBERAL candidates for president ahead in the polls??
Hillary and Giuliani BOTH are soft on Illegal Immigration.
If people are so inflamed, Tancredo would be doing better than he is...am I right???

Daniel F --You say--"people are tired of the business as usual candidates, they want change .America as a nation can not afford another tax and spend President"
That is contradicory to your point. If you aren't going to support another business as usual candidate
You wouldn't support Hillary. She is Corrupt. She can't answer a question without flip flopping on it 2 days later.
You don't want another "tax and spend President"
You are in for an eye-opening when this woman gets control!

"High-profile New York Senator Hillary Clinton helped to lead a decline in Congress’s overall pro-taxpayer voting records last year, according to the widely-anticipated annual Rating of Congress released today by the non-partisan National Taxpayers Union (NTU). In spite of 2001’s tax cuts, the average lawmaker still voted less than half the time to reduce or control the federal government’s burden on taxpayers."

As usual there are no perfect candidates and we are left with choosing the lesser of the evils, and honestly we do not believe the government will do what the people want with illegal immigration anyway. both parties have too much to gain by doing nothing. The republicans make huge profits from illegals labor and the democrats use them as leverage over hispanic voters and plan to use their children as a victim style voting base like they do with other minorities. As for Tancredo he simply does not have enough money or power to make himself heard.

Yes you people that are against undocumented immigration, do not represent the majority sentiment on the issue in America.
No Conservative is going to win this election, people are tired of the business as usual candidates, they want change .America as a nation can not afford another tax and spend President The National debt has grown $1.42 Billion dollars a day since September 29,2006 each American citizen portion of that debt today.is $29,859.67.
When Bill Clinton Left Office, The economy was in great shape, Bush and the Republicans are the ones that turn that healthy economy into the conditions it is in now.
We can not afford another Republican in the Oval office !

Chinese were not illegal immigrants. Please read the following: Chinese Americans are Americans of Chinese descent. Chinese Americans constitute one group of Overseas Chinese and are a subgroup of Asian Americans. The first Chinese immigrants arrived in 1820 according to U.S. government records. Fewer than 1,000 arrived before the 1848 California Gold Rush which drew the first significant number of laborers from China who performed menial work for the gold prospectors. There were 25,000 immigrants by 1852, and 105,465 by 1880, most of whom lived on the West Coast. Most of the early immigrants were young males with low educational levels from the Guangdong province.[2] Chinese people were some of the early immigrants to live in the U.S. but then were banned from emigrating between 1885 and 1965 when the ban on Asian immigrants was lifted by the Immigration Reform and Control Act.

The problem is that the candidates are not chosen by votes, they are chosen by money. Groups against illegal immigration don't have much money to work with. All the powerful economic interests on both sides of the spectrum (from large corporations on the left to the ACLU on the right) are in favor of illegal immigration for various reasons, and they can outspend everyone else in the campaigns.

I know what you mean, but, presidents don't make laws. They are the head of the executive branch. They just make appointments and oversee the congress. So, maybe people don't expect them to be able to do much about illegal immigration. I don't think anyone can be sure what the public at large is thinking.
EDIT: Mrs. C, everyone of us will have to be more diligent about who we elect to every office, including local elections, not just the president. Sure the president can push the issues from the bully pulpit, but it will ultimately be the congress that will have to make, or change the laws. And, sorry you're right, that might take awhile.

Tancredo is correct that illegal immigration could ruin this country, could make this country into a different, poorer, and culturally third-world country.
Most people who live in an area that has become seriously infested by illegal immigration, unless he or she is la raza or an illegal him or her self, know the truth: illegal immigration can ruin America.
Myself, I've seen it, and I won't vote for any candidate who supports illegal immigration or is "soft" on it.

Everyone should be looking for the candidate who will take on NAFTA which is the majority cause of illegal immigration. I am assuming some folks are for Hilary because she seems to be willing to take on NAFTA and the other FTA's. Hopefully they will look into other candidates also - I also need to point out the polls mean nothing until after Iowa.
I know little of Tancredo, I am looking into all the candidates and their stance on the middle class jobs and taxes, NAFTA and other free trade deals and enforcing the border - if those things were under control illegal immigration would be also.

Your point certainly has some validity. And this IS the immigration forum, and I have been one of the most active and vocal anti illegal posters here.
Having said that: voting is multi-factorial and few people will vote on the basis of a single platform issue. I have never seen a candidate who holds the exact same views as I do on everything.
I make my voting decisions by listing all the issues, weighting them in importance, assessing candidates against who agrees as I do, and then I do the math. The candidate with the strongest weighted match gets my vote.
With this next round of elections, there is no question that illegal immigration will get a strong weight as I assess the candidates.

There are more issues than illegal immigration. And we have a year before the election. Before the primaries started in 2004 Howard Dean had a large lead over Kerry, look what happened there.
