Get the '09 GTR. Universal City Nissan in Universal City, California have been taking orders for months. If you what an R34, there is an import that imports Skylines to the U.S. I know that the company's in Huntington Beach, CA and they are they only importers in the USA for that car. However, i believe that a R34 GTR will run you $90K after it's all said and and done. Still not bad after the Nissan dealers mark up the R35 GTR for '09. I'm guessing those will go for over $100K.

Are you a US citizen?

If so, just forget it. You're going to have to wait another 15 years or so before that car will be legal in the US.

There are several ways to LEGALLY (without running the risk of the car being impounded and destroyed) import a non US-market car into the US.

If you are a non-citizen visiting the US you can bring your car in temporarily.

If you are a foreign diplomat, you can generally have your car in the US as long as you're here.

If the car is 25 years old, there might be issues with registration in particular states, but there won't be any problems importing it.

If the car is rare (less than 500 made) and/or technologically and historically significant, you can apply to import it for "show and display."
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/ShowDisplay/howtosd072003.html

If the car is on this list:
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/elig010807.pdf
then it has been approved for import, but may still require modifications and will probably have to be imported by a registered importer. This will be expensive.

(Note that the R33 is on that list...the R34 is NOT. This is part of why Motorex isn't in business anymore.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_import_vehicles)

If the car is identical (barring possibly some powertrain differences) to a US model, and can be certified as so by the manufacturer, it can be more easily put on that list, and will require less (possibly none) work to import it once it's there.

If none of the above apply, you're going to need a lot of time and money to get the car on the eligible list. You might have to do a lot of engineering work. You might have to crash some cars. You'll probably still have to do a lot of work on the car to bring it into compliance even after all the paperwork is done. So basically you might as well just forget it.

To get everything legalized and imported you can expect to spend around $200,000-$300,000. The cost of the car is $80,000-$100,000 for the GTR R34 Spec-V. Then the Customs cost, the inspection and modification to allow it to be driven in the US, and not to mention that is possible to have a 1-3 year hold on it in customs. Then the insurance is a problem too. You have to hold full coverage "exotic" insurance because the car is not sold in the US. I worked for a company that used to import these cars and believe me it is a HUGE hassle. We had a customers car in customs for almost 3 YEARS before they would release it to him. Then it took him almost 2 years to get it road legal.

get the new skyline is the best of all of them r34 too old for the road now if you want to go drifting on track then you can use all the power or it is point less . in aust we can register imports we dont get early evos etc just for rally events as we have to travel on roads to get to stages and to repair car promo exhibits etc . skylines on the road in stock form are boring compared to a race prep skyline . and so un comfortable for normal driving to and fro .
