Does it bother you when you are referred to as a fundie from non-christians in a negative way?
Do you think other Christian groups should refrain from using this term as it is divisive and not Christ like?

Midge, see you are being divisive. You claim to be a Christian (Catholic, I think) yet you post questions calling Christians who interpret the bible literally, or disagree with you, fundies. I could say alot about relying on the wisdom and words of the RCC. We need to in Christ hold one another up and offer gentle reproof if needed. Thats all. Gods peace to you

The reference is inaccurate. Not all Christians are fundamentalists. I would discourage the use of this word. Other Christian groups should not use slang to describe the beliefs of others.

To some non believers, all Christians are Fundies, all Christians are a part of the Inquisitions, and all Christians are those who talk bad about Gays.

I just consider the source. It might bother me, but only how people can talk and not really know. Many of them are only gaging what they are believing on what they've seen and heard others do. The Fundies who are really Fundies are the real culprits. And if a decent Christian sees one of them acting up, they have to find a way to shame them. For the Fundies are acting without a conscience, without compassion, and without proper learning.

A Christian who is true to the word of God ought to pray on this extensively. Because what we are actually are dealing with is a satanic influence on the church. The Fundies would NEVER admit to this - to them they are doing God's work, but are actually following after the same demonic spirit that influenced the Pharisees of Jesus' time.

I guess I am considered a fundie, no, it does not bother me what people say, because I know where I stand with God. I think that fellow Christians should love one another, no matter what denomination they belong to. We are to love one another and not put each other down. We can disagree, but in a loving manner.

While far from being a "fundie," Larry Norman had the right idea when he wrote "Shot Down:"

I've been shot down, talked about,
Some people scandalize my name,
But here I am, talking 'bout Jesus just the same.
I've been knocked down, kicked around,
but like a moth drawn to the flame,
Here I am, talking 'bout Jesus just the same.

I've been rebuked for the things I've said,
For the songs I've written and the life I've led,
They say they don't understand me but I'm not surprised,
Cause you can't see nothin' when you close your eyes.

They say I'm sinful, backslidden, that I have left to follow fame,
But here I am, talking 'bout Jesus just the same.

You wanna talk about my life, hey listen to me,
You've got your facts all backward, one-two-three,
And spreading rumors and gossip is a real bad game,
The only name to spread is Jesus' name.

I've been shot down, kicked around,
But like a moth drawn to the flame,
Here I am, talking 'bout Jesus brother,
Here I am, talking 'bout Jesus sister,
Here I am, talking 'bout Jesus just the same.

i usually consider the source of the 'insult'-and have a little chuckle...cj did answer it well, though, but i believe that, as a Christian, i'll let the Savior's words stand:

'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do"

It doesn't really bother me. We have been called fundie's and Jesus Freaks. Its ok with me. Ill accept all those titles. When you are attacked like that it just means that you refuse to compromise Godly principles for the lie of political correctness.

For this reason the Lord tarries, Jesus is coming back for his bride, one church, one body. If we as Christians do not stop this ridiculous infighting we will continue to delay His coming. As for the unbelievers does it really matter what they think or say? It is without consequence to our salvation.

I agree with CJ.

Furthermore, Jesus said that the servant is not above his master. If they did these things to the master, how much more so will they do them to us?

i think its a hypocritical statement. they know nothing about Christianity and they pass judgment. not all...but a lot do. and yet they complain that we pass judgment on them. for someone to not know me nor my God...they sure do think they know a lot. i know where i stand in Christ and that is all i am concerned about.

i also agree with CJ--well said!

It doesn't bother me. Jesus said the truth is hated by the unsaved, so labeling me with whatever name is to be expected.
