we have tried to tire him out , go for long walks so he is too tierd to go out barking but it isnt working. he barks and barks, and when i go to him he barks at me as well. he isnt barking at anything specificaly - there are no foxes near us. so why is he doing this???

he goes to obedience classes - e.g: learnt to sit, stay, come, heel, away, hold, fetch, wait etc etc.

We made a "no" can which is made by putting a few pennies into an empty pop can and taping it shut.

When our dog would bark or do something she wasn't supposed to, we would toss the can in her direction (but not aiming AT her). The noise would distract her and she should stop the behavior. Now that we had her attention, that's when disciplined her. We'd tell our dog, "naughty!" If this doesn't work we tap her sternly on her muzzle with our finger and tell her naughty again.

But we started this when we first got our dog. It is harder to change a behavior of a dog when they have has had lots of practice (unless you're the Dog Whisperer and then it will take about 10 seconds!).

There are also systems, which involve shock collars that you could look in to. Or, one that seems much nicer is the citronella spray collar. The idea with that one is that when the dog barks, he gets a little spray of citronella. I'm not sure but I'm guessing dogs do not like the smell. You're going to have to do some research to find out if either of these options would work for your dog. They may also be cheaper than going to a trainer.

But, if you've tried all this I would definitely seek help from a professional.

Below is an article of other methods and it also talks about reasons dogs bark.

Don't let him out.

Make him stay indoors in a crate if he doesn't settle down.

Put the crate next to your bed, and if he barks, spray is nose with a squirt bottle filled with water. Citronella spray works well for dogs that like water. (It doesn't burn or sting). Sound is another way to stop behavior you don't want. Use a penny can (10 pennies in a soda can, tape the lid shut), or a metal spatuala on a metal pot lid to make a sharp sound when ever he barks.

Basically, he's discovered a fantastic game, and when you go out, you're playing too.

This has to be trained out of him, just like any other behavior. Be firm, be consistent and INSIST on quiet at night.

You may need to get him trained. My dog was trained by a trainer not to bark. The only time she barks is when she wants back in the house. And that's just to get my attention.

well, you let your dog out to do his business, you haven't obviously trained your dog at all. You have him as your toy. You need to train him work with him, you have the idea that you can get a dog and automatically he will know not to bark or do bad things. ha ha ha. Train your dog . call petco or petsmart and for a small fee they can help you with your dog. He needs to be walked and paid attention to like a member of the family, and to follow rules and he will do much better. try it.

my ma is a vet and our dog had the same problem. for us it was becuase my dog didn't like his food anymore. but before we found out it was his food my ma's opinion were he might be in pain, or something happened outside and everytime hes out there something bothers him, or somethinf like that. so i suggest that the next time hes by ur garden go out with him and see if hes looking at something or what hes by and maybe u can figure it out.

You may not hear anything, but he is, dogs have instinct, so they just don't do something with out a reason. You need to find that reason.
