You need three basic things for the motor to run,
1st, you need fuel to get to the carb/injectors and into the cylinders.
2nd, you need spark at the spark plugs.
3rd, you need compression.
If you have these three, it will run, maybe not great if there is another problem, but it will run. So break it down, check the fuel first, gas in tank? fuel pumping to the carb/injector? fuel getting to the cylinders?
Then check for spark at the spark plug.
If you have both of those, but it won't start, check each cylinder for compression.
Good luck

Do you hear the fuel pump running with the key on?
Are you sure there is gas?
If not. Check the fuel pump fuse or breaker.
Check the ignition fuse.
Get a trouble shooting chart from a manual.
