No you don't. If you hate some one, then your just as bad as the person you hate. This is what most people don't realize about the army and becoming a soldier, you have to face death and not be afraid of it or your not going to last 2 seconds in open fire. You have to make hard choices whether it's saving your own life, or taking the risk of dying by rescuing your wounded best friend. Soldiers have emotion as well, but if you cry when one of your buddy dies, in the middle of war, then you too are weak and will probably get seriously injured or die. So all soldiers that make the army are trained not to cry at the death of a teammate or other people that are a threat to you. That is the hardest part of being or becoming a true hero, killing your victim's without the slightest show of remorse

It’s nice to see so many people voicing their opinions about what it takes to be a soldier and to kill in the line of duty (as they probably have never served, let alone been in a situation where they had to take someone’s life). To those that think that soldiers are trained to kill without remorse or not to cry at the loss of friend at the hands of the enemy - you haven’t a clue. Soldiers have to be the most human of humans.

Hatred can be a useful tool to get people out on the battlefield, but unfortunately for them it clouds judgment and offers little if no tactical advantage. To become an elite soldier it takes discipline, hard work, and perseverance. Those that use their hatred as their motivation to become a soldier need to rethink what they’re doing and seek some professional psychiatric help.

No.

Any soldier has to kill in the context of war. If he kills for any other reason, he's of no use to the military in their mission to act as a tool to enforce international policy.... and he can become a treat to society.

It's not easy taking the life of one who may be a father and a son, or a mother and a daughter. One has to rationalize it all before one goes into combat. You know that your enemy wants you dead. You know if you don't get him, he'll get you. You know your target is a major blight on humanity He is everything that is the antithesis of what you hold dear... and he wants to end your life.

Once a soldier goes into combat, he doesn't have time to rationalize.

If one kills people he doesn't like, how is he going to treat somebody he doesn't like when he gets home?

No. It is simply a matter of having a drive to excel in your career choice and to become the best that you can be.
Haterd clouds your mind and judgement, and therefore makes you a liability and risk.
