One question....Does it matter if He or She?

When you pray, do you ask is a he or she?
When you ask for forgiveness, do you ask is a he or she?
just as God does not elect to bias along He or She and what he should have and that she should have, but love unconditional.....

He, She, is a categorization for the physical body, to separate man and woman. Also, I'm thinking thot, He, She is man. Son and Daughters are more in his references.

Hi Alleycat,

Well, the very male dominated origins of the English language dictate that. God is Spirit. Therefore God is neither he or she the way human beings are gendered. God doesn't have gender, but God does have personality. Personalities can only know other personalities, whether gendered or not. But the English language? Well, remember your history... the origins of the English language dating back to even before King James' days are to blame for calling God "he".

If God is a spirit as the Bible says, and a spirit has no flesh or bones, then God cannot be male in physical form. God is not male, since He is not a physical, but a spiritual, being.

However,,,the male is the authority figure for the home...so I am thinking this is the reason God is referred to as him..It stands for authority. IMHO

The Bible shows He is our Father. It always refers to Him and not Her.

We believe that we are the literal offspring of heavenly parents, that God is our Heavenly Father, and that we also have a Heavenly Mother, though practically nothing is known of Her.

We were literally created in the image of God. We look like Him. We were conceived of Him. This being the case, just as gender is an essential eternal attribute of all of us, so it is with God. It is part of who He is. God is not just an "it", some impersonal, unknowable, incomprehensible thing. He is a real, personal being. We can understand Him and come to know Him as our Father.

Seek Him, learn of Him, pray to Him, and you can come to know it's true.

God has both male and female qualities. What pronoun do you want to use. Refering to God with the pronoun " it", would not seem right. Man uses many imanges to connect with God, maybe, a female image of God needs to be created, for the sake of balance. Traditional religions would problably not like that. But, you could meditate/prayer on it, and see if you can come up with one.

Jesus is God.

By the way, when the Bible refers to God as "he", you must understand that God is Spirit, not flesh and blood, and using a pronoun like that does not mean that God goes around flexing "His" muscles.

We were created in God's image. "And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him. Male and female He created them."

It's not being sexist (*sigh*). There is also the notion of relationship, just as God didn't have a male child, but Jesus is the Son of God, not by any physical manifestation, but as a term of endearment and relationship, so likewise, if in the purest sense of the term (before the fall of mankind - and womankind too), "man" was the giver, the provider, and "woman" was the recipient.

Even if you were to look at it physically, a man and a woman, the man gives of himself, the woman receives it, and life is created. Well, God is the ultimate giver, and in THAT respect, we are all receivers from God.

Throughout human history, the Divine has been worshipped in both male and female aspects -- as God and Goddess.

Christian scriptures offer no "proof" that the Divine is male, only that their particular God refers to Itself in male terms (or that Its followers interpret It in male terms, which is more likely given the male-centered society of Biblical times).

If you accept Christian scriptures as evidence, then I think you also have to accept Hindu scriptures (where Goddesses are referred to and honored) as well as the holy writings of other faiths.

Here's your proof (from the Bible):

Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Mark 15:39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

Luke 12:8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God

Luke 22:69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

There isn't any -- nor is there proof (or even evidence!) that god exists. In English, it is customary to use the masculine pronoun because (unlike French, for example) there isn't a neuter pronoun in the language. Some people like to use "she" instead of "he"; there is nothing wrong with doing so. See also:
