Sweetie, like the bible says they will follow what their itching ears want to hear. It is sad that people do not understand that they have to follow Christ. And about trying to change well God promised to give us the ability to change when he fills us with his Spirit...like he promised in Ezekiel 36:26 "I will put in them a heart of flesh and put a new spirit in them so they can follow my decrees" I know this is not verbatim but the whole point is HE changes us to want to even do his will...there is nothing that we can do other than receive Christ to be saved...that means we give up our lives and allows him to be LORD...ie have his way! so we will not have to TRY any longer because it is him that does the work in us. I hope that makes sense to you Peace.
PS CJ the bible says a lot more than to believe...it also says to RECEIVE him...to turn from our wickedness etc...you must study more. Peace

You said it perfectly. Our purpose in life has to be so much more than avoiding hell.
There was once a history professor that announced the final would be given at the end of the first week of class, so everyone had to finish the text book. Half the class dropped, and on test day he told everyone remaining they passed, and since they all had read the text, he could start teaching.

A relative of mine is like what you describe. He has not repented. He would not be a good person by atheist standards (higher moral values then religious people). He's an idiot.

Essentially, yes. Yet, it is the job of the Holy Spirit to change us. We are to allow Him to renew our minds and we are to endeavor to please God and do His will. He is holy and we are to be holy as He is holy.
You speak of what has been termed as "sloppy grace". It has also been called, "fire insurance". People forget that God has standards and we are to live up to them. We will not be perfect, as we are human, but that is what grace is really for - to get us back on track, not a 'get out of jail free' card, as you so well put it.
We cannot be saved by our works, but once we have given our lives over to Jesus, we are to put works into practice in order to exercise our faith. Our works are nothing in light of the holiness of God. But, Jesus can make us righteous - and justified. Within this, we are to live an obedient, holy life.

Because the one who inspired their religion said that all you need to do to get out of Hell is to believe in him, no more, no less. Which means that a Christian can be horrible as anyone, Hitler (I believe he was a Christian so back off) goes to Heaven, since he believes in Jesus, while Gandhi, who was Hindu, goes to Hell because he "Likes your Christ, just not you Christians" and does not accept Jesus as his Savior...I just love how it works...don't you?

Since this is the "doctrine" you presume to teach, tell us, what amount of repentance and change is necessary for salvation? When have you "done enough" to be saved according to your pablum here?
The Bible contradicts you, and says only to believe that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). The one who believes is saved.
