Many Americans deride Canadian military tradition. How many know that 60 000 Canadians volunteered to fight in the Civil War (mostly for the North)? Or that 50 000 Canadians volunteered to fight in Vietnam?

In each case, that's just about 6 full divisions.

You got it right, History. Here's a rundown on Canadian military history- WW1- 600 000 Canadians served on the western front, in the Canadian Corps, a shock unit that took some of the toughest German defensive positions. 23 of the top 100 aces were Canadians.
WW2- world's 3rd largest navy, 4th largest airforce, 100 batallion sized combat units, organized into 6 infantry divisions, and 2 armored divisions. Canadians fought in some of the toughest (and most underpublicised) battles in Northwest Europe, like the Scheldt Estuary.
Canadians also covered the US 8th army's retreat from the Chosin reservoir, at Kapyong, Korea, 1951.
So you see, Canada has a rich military history, even though a lot of Americans (and Canadians) don't know much about it.
I've been reading about this stuff since I was a little kid, and know more about Canadian history than 90% of Canadians, and more about American history than 90% of Americans!
