My puppy had kennel cough and the vet put him on Clavamox and something else that I don't remember that was suppose to loosen the mucus in his lungs. Anyways, I noticed that he had tapeworms and I asked a question before about homeopathic remedies for tapeworms but now, it looks like the tapeworms are going away. Is there any chance that either medicine that the vet put him on indirectly got rid of the tapeworms? I looked online for information but there is none. If anyone knows the answer or if Clavamox has helped their pet with tapeworms please let me know. I just want to know if it is a positive side effect or at least a possibility.

Nope, not possible. You need to give your dog a dewormed that will get rid of tapeworms, antibiotics won't do it, and neither will a couch suppressant or a medication that breaks up mucus. You might not see as many tapeworm segments right now because the tapeworm might not be shedding them at this moment, but that doesn't mean the tapeworm is not still there. Talk to your veterinarian about the tapeworms, and they will give you a good dewormer. They should also recommend a good flea control for your dog, as most tapeworm infections come from the dog eating fleas or rodents. Good Luck with your puppy, I hope he feels better soon!!

No. Clavamox is an antibiotic. Did the vet check a stool sample when you took your dog in for kennel cough? They usually do and send home some worm medicine with the antibiotics. Why don't you just treat the worms? homeopathic or RX from the MD. No amount of wishing will get rid of them. You may see fewer from time to time but rest assured they are still alive and up there in her colon wiggling around and sucking away her nutrients and eventually her life.

This happened to me with my dog twice. There are some worms that can be treated with an over the counter medicine. Tapeworms cannot. The vet has special medicine in an injection that has to be done in clinic. After the shot, your dog should be fine.

Hmmmm....my dog was on Clavamox for acne on her chin. I'm not sure why it would take the tapeworms away. You probably don't want to hear it, but I'd go get some real meds for the worms. One of my dogs and my cat had them and they were nasty. I looked everywhere for meds until I realized the only available were through my vet.

Tape worm in any dog is SERIOUS you should get a proper wormer to deal with it. Puppy's can have life time damage from a serious worm infestaton and it must be pretty bad if you have actually seen them!!
No Atibiotics will not get rid of worms!

NO!!!!! Antibiotics are for INFECTION. Parasites are treated with antiparasitics!!!!! Call your vet and get tapeworm pill!!!!!!!
It is just one simple call to the vet. Clearly, they have seen the dog recently, so they will just have you pick up a pill or two!!!!

Nope the Clavamox is just for infections only. Tape worm must be treated separately.

You must call your vet to get the right dewormer for the tape worms.
