My mum hates giving me a lift to dance and she hates me practising. She totally dosen't care about what's important to me or what I want. The rest of my family feels the same except for my father. I don't even want to convince my mother that dance isn't a waste of time I just want her to get off my back and let me do what I dream. I'm really good at street-dance and I don't want to end up a mess like her.

Assure them that dance is a form of art, it is YOUR own way to freely and purely express yourself...AND the health benefits are fantastic,,,just be yourself and do what makes you "YOU" and makes you happy,,,if your simple minded family cant understand that, then they do not know how to properly love or support you...

Your mum is probably just worried about you pursuing dance as a career path. She just wants the best for you and probably feels that you have other talents which you're not nuturing. Pursuing dance as a career is inconsistent and under-paid unless you are one of the lucky few at the very top. Maybe you should concentrate a bit more on something else that your mum does approve of (like school) so she feels you have a backup plan. She just wants you to have a secure future.

Dance is the perfect, ultimate exercise. Not only does it strengthen the body but its great for coordination, self esteem and exercise does strengthen the immune system. You won't get sick as much/will fight off infections better.

Is it possible to arrange a ride with one of your dance peers or can your dad drive you? Can you take the bus or walk if its in a good area/nearby?

Would she rather have you dance or hang out at the mall and get into drugs and gangs and strange boys? Its also alot better than sitting in front of the TV.

Use there negativity as your motivation to become succesful. Show how dedicated you are to dance. Your family should be supportive of you regardless of how they feel because you are pursuing something that you enjoy doing.
They have already made up their minds about dance, so there really isn't anything that you can do that would cange their minds, but just keep doing what makes you happy.

Not too sound too blunt about it but Prove it.

I am a graphic designer and colorist for comics. I freelance and when I was first starting I was making about 400 a month...not a whole lot but got my foot in the door.
My inlaws thought I was a scumbag and a low life.

Now I make 3k a month and have done character designs for video games, wrote articles for artists sites, colored for Marvel and DC plus some Image comics. Now I make more than the inlaws and I work from home.

You have to let them know it is your true passion and you love it. If they don't respect that, then keep dancing anyways. You have to follow your dreams and not let people get in your way. Whether she likes it or not, you love dancing, and you have to keep doing it no matter what.

If they don't respect that you truly have a passion for dance, then I can't help you. I would assume they already know how much you love it. You're going to have to ignore them or work around them. Don't let your family stand in your way of what you want to do.

I support you and applaud you. Actually, dance not only is a great exercise, one may be surprised how often dance training early in life helps an individual in all kinds of other areas. If I lived near you I would take you to dance. Is there someone in your class that lives near you? I applaud you that your dreams are bigger than those around you. It's more difficult that way, but please don't let that discourage you. I'm already a fan of yours!

Research some people who are good at dancing. Show her what jobs are available, show her how the excersise is good. Don't let your mom ruin your dream. If you love it, do it. Learn to be better. Once your really good, you can show her how it wasn't a waste.

Tell her that you need the exercise to stay trim.
Tell her you don't want to be a fat spinster living at home until age 30.
Perhaps see about getting into some formal dance courses at school.
