Certain Passats had engines that ran from front to back, rather than side to side like your Polo.
If you are determined to fit a bigger engine, I'd say get one from a Golf, but your still looking at a lot of work. Don't forget that a huge increase in power will require upgraded brakes, suspension, cooling.....
But, there are people that have fitted 2 VR6 engines into Lupos (one in the front, one in the back) and the same has been done to several Golfs too. Anything's possible if you've got enough money.

It depends on the Passat. One from an 1988-1996 (series III and IV) model might fit easily, as they had a transversely-mounted engine.
The Polo saloon from 1996 didn't have the same front end as the Polo hatchback, but rather had the longer front end from the Seat Ibiza (also shared by the Seat Cordoba, Seat Inca, VW Caddy and VW Polo variant/estate).
The 2.0 installation from an Ibiza or Cordoba would be an easier swap.

that is alot of hard work. the newer passats are not a transverse engine. the older ones might fit but you will have alot of problems plumbing it up, wiring it etc. i wouldn't attempt it if i was you.
