I'm making a low budget horror pic and am torn between these two products, mostly because of cost and operating system. I already got the camera and accessories (I bought the brand new Canon HV20).

I personally have no problems with macs and PCs in general. And from what I hear, both Final Cut and Avid are excellent editing softwares, they have both been used on various movies (i.e. Final Cut for "300" and Avid for the "Matrix" films).

But people keep saying Macs and Final Cut is the best to get. So I'll have to spend $1500 on mac computer and $1300 on Final Cut Pro? I see that Final Cut Express is much cheaper but I'm not too sure what's so different about it and is it an advantage or disadvantage to Final Cut Pro?

Although I am not a movie editor I would say that Apple would provide the better package in terms of hardware and software. Avid is excellent in its own right but it is not complemented by the hardware.
Many movie and production houses are moving to Apple because of the Macs scalability and total package.

Xserves are also better suited to handling video footage than PC servers.

MAGIX is a very good software, you can do good intros, nice transitions and has lots of slots for audio, video and pictures. Also, you can export it so it can be any type of quality, from MP4 to .Avi. Or there's Windows Movie Maker, which you can get on the start menu, programs and it's one of the links.

Go to Apple's website and look for the Final Cut comparison charts. Then, decide for yourself.
