For example unemployment, poverty, or having to deal with a disease. If you have a disease that is uncurable I can imagine that you become chronically depressed.

Is if ever just "logical" to be depressed for a long itme?

there are too types of depression
1. you actually need therapy in order to cure this type of depression and people who get this are usually daling with emotional issues or having big problems
2. the type when a person at the end of their work day says 'o i'm soo depressed' when actually they're a lil stressed, this type of 'depression' is usually cured with a night out or just the weekend

You have hit the nail on the head --

Ever take one of the depression/stress tests?
On the test it will have you mark any of about a dozen items if such changes or experiences have happened to you in the past year-18mo. (some would include: death of a family member, divorce or separation, loss of a job, started a new job, birth of a child, moving, major illness or chronic illness, auto accident, housefire, etc....)

Each of the events on the list is assigned a number as to the amount of stress each one could be valued. The more traumatic, the higher the number of "stress points". The little test has you add-up your stress points over the past year, and if your number is high............it shows there is a good reason for depression coming out of your circumstances.

People do, in time, learn to adapt to their pace of life, to a certain extent. But, it is very logical that a person in extreme circumstances of constant change would be depressed. The load is just too heavy.

You have to know something about depression, though.
While it can come from circumstances, it can also come or continue from a physical problem your body develops. In order to get out of that longterm condition the brain can need a little extra "help" to "jumpstart" the brain functioning and manufacturing what is missing. That is the proper and useful job of anti-depressant medication.

As a sufferer of depression, I have to tell you that nothing is logical about it. It can be caused by life circumstances. Or like you said, an incurable disease. It can come when a person hits a certain age and realizes they are getting older. That one hit me hard when I turned 45. But there is just no logic to it. It can come completely out of the blue when you think you have life by the tail. I'm 45, female, and have fought depression all of my life, but it was caused by things in my life that happened when I was a child. I take antidepressants which help, but I always see the glass half empty rather than half full. My sister is just the opposite. She sees the sunny side of life while I can't. So to really answer your question, there is no "logical" answer for depression, because so many things can cause it. While I am 45 now, my mom died of cancer when I was 6 and it's just something that I never got over. Of course I have gone on with my life. There is no other choice, but all those memories are still with me as to how sick she was. I wish you good luck.

Yes. Psychiatrists call it Adjustment Disorder with Depressed Mood. If it lasts longer than a few months the diagnosis will probably be changed to Major Depression.

I work for a mental health agency, and I noticed we have a lot of people who are paraplegic or quadriplegic and eventually develop Major Depression. I think that's perfectly understandable.

I have been diagnosed with Major Depression and Dysthymic Disorder (low grade chronic depression). I think my depression is genetic, but it definitely gets worse when I'm dealing with a difficult situation at a particular time.

I were ache from publish partum melancholy for the beyond one yr while I gave beginning to a little one boy. I could not quit considering how my husband loves him greater than me and the way matters perhaps bigger if he wasn't born in any respect. Thus, I stayed clear of him considering the fact that I knew that I could do anything I will remorse for the relaxation of my existence. Almost immediately I went to a therapist and persuade them that I want aid. Among different matters, I've attempted natural dietary supplements and different publication to regard melancholy however not anything works just like the Depression Free Method. YES!!! There are many variables involved, though. If you are normally a happy person, with lots of friends who will support you, I think it would make dealing with a disease (or any of the other situations you mention) much easier.

I've been clinically depressed since the late '70's and, therefore been unable to work (except for a few jobs which totaled about 4 years). The depression itself is considered a "disease".

Please excuse any inconsistencies in this reply. I'm kind of incoherent right now :()

yes life experiences usually are what start depression. if u have too many at once for to long u get it chronically which means it wont go away on its own. thats when u need meds. also if u loose motivation and are suicidal u need meds because it very rare that u will be able to get out of that on ur own. pretty much when u have been depressed for a long time ur brain creates more of that hormone naturally. so it becomes physical. exercise and meds are the 2 most common and effective ways to treat it. they also did a study on food and high fat and sugary food make ur body produce more of the depression hormone where as fruits and veggies help it return to normal. Its the complete opposite of what i want to eat when i am depressed but it works.

I believe so. Im 20 and have suffered from depression since I was 14. I believe thats its an innnate character in me, its my comfort zone. There are factors in my life which make it worse at times..for example I have to drop one of my college courses cause its extremely hard and I go the extreme and say to myself "Im a failure, im not going to get anywhere in life." Then I will go through a severe depression stage and tend to pull away from people. I feel like this all the time though

Of course depression is the logical reaction to terrible circumstance. It's when it fails to lift after a reasonable time, or when the person cannot deal with it when their circumstances will not improve (as if your fatal illness example) that you need help.
