As a Dutchman, and therefore an expert, I can tell you the following:
-About 24% of the Dutch eat licorice on a regular basis and 10-14% daily.
-0.15% eats more than 3 ounces of licorice a day.
-Yearly consumption in The Netheralnds is 70.5 million lbs.
-There are hundreds of kinds of licorice.
-You can buy licorice at any supermarket and there are many shops that don't sell anything else than licorice.

Of course people still like black licorice, ever heard of the candy "Good and Plenty"? All that is is black licorice covered in a sugar coating.

I Love black licorice!!! Of course I buy it. Especially those black licorice flavoured cigars or pipes with the little red candies on the end.

Black licorice is the best whether it is fresh or slightly stale and chewy! It is always my first choice for licorice. They still make it because people still enjoy it, buy it and eat it.
