I do shake hands with people around me and I kiss family members that are with me. However you should know that it is not required to shake hands it is just a custom that has developed over time. I often find myself offended when people dont want to shake my hand but I have to step back and quickly remember that my only requirement in this part of the mass is to recognize them as my neighbor and wish them peace.

Well...I've been to many Catholic masses (my parents are catholic) and every one shakes hands. I've also been to Christian churches who do the same (shake hands in welcome) Usually family members (like my parents) will kiss on cheeks during the sign of peace and then shake hands with other people. It doesn't seem to bother people. I don't care either way. I just make sure I wash my hands after church. (germs are everywhere even in church)

Some people choose not to shake hands for valid reasons...they may not want to spread or pick up germs....I have mild arthritis in my hands, and sometimes it hurts- I can imagine it is hard for others. Some people are shy.
Hand shaking is NOT the only valid sign of peace...a smile and a nod of the head and "Peace be with you" are acceptable, too.

When I used to go to Catholic mass, I didn't want to shake the hands of strangers. I was perfectly "OK" with shaking the hand of my mother or my sister, etc, but touching strangers has never been a comfortable experience for me.

I have a problem shaking hands with others, and tend to avoid it at all costs whenever possible. In mass i don't know why, I just do it, it'd be very unpolite not to, if someone offered to shake my hand I'd do it. I might not like it but I'd still do it.

Yes, I shake hands. Sometimes, people also want to hug during the Peace, and that's fine with me, too.

Depended on the church. It is now considered an option since some people seem to be germ a phobicas! When I went to mass I did that or hugged people I knew, even some I didn't know.

I prefer shake fellow members' hands before or after the mass and communicate with them. We make and bring peace to them, not only doing the sign of peace.
During the mass we do pray "Lord Jesus Christ do not...etc" followed by "Lamb of God..." without disruption.
