It means that if you put for example 6 lbs. test (that is the strenght of your line) onto this reel, you will be able to fit about 185 yards (About 550 feet) on the reel.

Those are the recommended pound test line for the reel and how many yards of line you could fit. Those numbers are only recommended. I know someone who puts on 40 pound test line for tautog fishing when the reel recommends no more than 20 pound test.

Light line... Stuff in the 6 # range. You may want some backing on that. Who has fish run for 550 feet on fresh water?
Save some money and have the fishing tackle store put on a little backing to fill in the bottom just a little. Do not tie the line to the end of the backing. (not ok w/ IGFA )
Different story if you are in saltwater and looking for line class records.
Keep in mind the skill of the angler at testing the Drag settings. If new to fishing fill it with 10 pound line.

6/8/10 = lb., test of fishin' line (heavier # test more strength) and 185/145/120 respectively = yards that reel/spool will accommodate ;)...
Other ppl had it right, just worded it a little differently. Think ya' got your answer though, what with the three previous responses ;) ;) ;)...
"Fish On", and good luck...

6lb test 185 yards of it etc.....
Some of the braided lines, power pro etc have smaller diameters per lb test though. I think these numbers refere to monofilament
fill the spool to about 1/8 inch from the edge and you should be golden.

fish stee. has it right on the$$$$$ but also check your rod they have the same classifications but # test line and lure weight rating so if ya buy a non combo set make sure rod and reel are same-ish plus most tackle shops will let you put the reel on a pole to see if you like the balance --a good balanced rod and reel will let ya fish w/ less fatigue
