It is true that people with DID have lived through Traumatic experiences. it is not as controversial as you might think .I believe it is a cut and dry diagnoses.
It is a way for someone to survive and cope when things are unbearable .
There are different dissociative disorders that manifest itself similarly.

I am diagnosed with DID and I do have horrific history of abuse. So yes I think it can be true and I have also hear d of other people who are multiple without having an abusive history.

Do you mean is the horrific abuse true?Or is it true that it can lead to a divided psyche?

I don't care much how controversial it is to anybody else it is my reality and i have to live with the symptoms.

Does anybody think that the mind or sense of self gets off scot-free after having had all your boundaries broken down?

ME was controversial in my lifetime and has now been accepted as something more than 'designer flu'

I don't care if people wake up to it or not - It helps me to have a place to start from in recovery, a metaphor and others to share with.

Lots of people in my lifetime have said sexual abuse doesn't happen especially with nice family men. Disbelieve what you want! It wont change the facts.

DID is real, and it's SO not controversial to anyone who lives with it. Those who have been diagnosed with DID likely know all too well on some level what went on in their lives ... even when they have blank times with no actual memory, their alters may fill in the blanks for them. Their Significant Others can also fill in blanks for them. I have done this for my SO several times. I know for a truth that there are horrific histories of abuse in DID folks. It is up to us as the DID-SO's to provide love, support and space, and whatever else the DID's need to help them get through their lives and deal with reality ... in whatever form that comes.

Been there - done that - so what's so controversial about having to live with the symptoms for the rest of my life?

DID is preferable to the alternative - going crazy
