if you report your card stolen and sullpy them the last transaction you authorized then yes the bank can contact the merchant or initiate an investigation and if there was surveilance the cops could check it out etc... as for the monry.. it may be lost unless your bank wants to credit you. but they dont have too. there usually isnt fraud protection with a debit card like there is a credit card... be weary of debit cards.. they lead to many problems. use credit when you can, its safer & you are better protected

In the U.S. the bank does have to credit you.

Regulation E requires banks to give provisional credit within 10 business day of a written dispute. They have 45 days (90 days international) to investigate. Technically it is the 11th business day (even if the bank credits you on the 10th business day, you won't be able to use tell the 11th business day.)

I would call your bank 24 hour hotline and close your card.
If you can't get through to your bank, you can call MasterCard or Visa if your debit card has that logo. They can block signature transaction part of the card.

Nope. What you can do is at the first sign of a fradulent transaction, you need to notify your bank right away and have them freeze the account until your replacement debit card arrive.

Some bank will reimburse you for your loss, some won't.

If the loss is big enough, the bank will file a police report and conduct and investigation. You don't have to do anything on your end.

Immediately contact your bank. They will close that debit card and reissue. The bank will investigate and it is possible the person could be tracked down.

You should also file a police report.
