My vet likes to wait until they are 6 months because the lungs are more developed/mature to tolerate anesthesia.

The ideal is before her first heat which can be between 4 and 10 months old. The surgery is less complicated and recovery faster.

Purrs to you and kitty.

The best time to get your kitten spayed would be when the kitten is between the age of 4-6 months.

The best age to get your kitten spayed is from 4 months to 6 months, but make sure you talk to your vet first. Make sure you have a good vet to do the work too, it could mean a matter of life or death. And remember, you kitten will probably feel sick and tired after that.

Hi. Your vet needs to confirm. Typically 6 months, or before first heat. They need to be about 8 pounds and healthy. All their shots.
Many ppl here say they don't have money for a vet, but it's important to get a couple quick visits a year. Kittens can get deadly infections from worms and bacteria, like a small child and NEED medical care. Visits shouldn't be more than $35 or so. Try to find a low cost clinic in your area, or call a local shelter for a referral. Good luck with your new baby.

Rescues & shelters alter their kittens when they are 2 months & older, and weigh 2 lbs or more. These requirements often come at the same time, but not always. BOTH requirements need to be met before spaying/neutering. Some clinics prefer them to be 3 lbs.

The two months / two pounds limit is the minimum. The vet performing the surgery needs to be confident and skilled with these procedures, however.

Any qualified vet would probably be capable of spaying a kitten at six months or older.

The longer you wait, the harder you will have to battle to keep her inside and away from males every time she goes into heat.

The risk of pregnancy -- for people as well as cats -- is always quite substantial. Cats who repeatedly have litters sometimes succumb to weakness and disease.

When preparing her for surgery, you will need to carefully follow their preoperative instructions -- for instance, if they advise you not to let her have any food for a certain period.

I have one that was done at the age of 3 months only because I got her from the humaine society and they only give you so long to get the free spay or neuter done. The vet said it was ok. Before the first heat normally. fl

I've always waited til they were 6 months, but a lot of vets will operate on them at an earlier age. Ask your vet what he/she thinks is a good age for your particular kitten. Good luck.

Approximately when they're 2-3 months or older. It's better to get them spayed at younger age.
