It's usually a reaction your body has to whatever is trying to invade it. For instance, when someone has a cold, it's usually caused by a virus (rhinovirus) that enters through a mucus membrane (eyes, nose, mouth) usually through the nose. This is why your nose runs a lot when you are sick because it's your body's response to try to get rid of the virus through your nose. If you are sick from some other thing, such as a bacterial infection, you either get a puss or itch and redness in the area where the infection is...this is your body's reaction to the waste products of the bacteria, not the bacteria itself. Basically, your body makes you feel sick to try to tell you something is not normal.

Because that is the way God made this world. We have to suffer some things and enjoy others. We were given free will so it is our duty to try to stay healthy. Why some people still get sick is for only God to know. Sorry, best answer I can give.
