When my dog was in my fenced backyard sleeping because our house was being washed and cleaned and the floors were wet and everybody went out except me of course. After about 10 minutes later my neighbors cat suddenly jumped the fence and scratching my dogs face and was able to rip his ear off. I was able to get the cat to stop by using the hose. I quickly brought my dog to the vet and he healed quickly. Why would the cat suddenly do that?

My dogs ears are VERY thin probably because he is a mongrel and is mixed about 40 times. He is 20 inches tall and very fluffy and weighs only 28 pounds. And yes I feed him he actually eat quite a lot.

I was in the back yard next to my dog because like I said the floors were wet and it was my sisters turn to wash the house so she made sure I was in the backyard so I would be trapped in there.

who knows what goes on in the furry little head of a kitty-cat. with that in mind, the cat may merely have been a dog hater.
poor doggie, i hope he is o.k. now. that had to be a bit traumatic for him, being awakened like that and the trip to the vet, being stitched up....poor baby.
my cats and dogs always seemed to get along pretty well, the cats sometimes have a spat amongst themselves, but they haven't attacked the dogs and visaversa.

Have you heard of the expression "like cats and dogs"? They are not on best terms. Cats usually are afraid, but when they are afraid, they don't run away, they attack, to get things clear. You didn't watch how it started, the cat may have approached the dog and the dog may have woken up suddenly and the cat panicked and attacked. Who knows? Did they know each other? If they did, and were on good terms, then it's strange.
