I would like to take photos of small objects, so I would also like recommendations on good supplementary lenses. I would like to buy a digital camera to use it with these close-up lenses and use the digital camera also for 'normal' photos. Thanks,

If you are using a DSLR, get a macro lens with at least a 1:1 ratio of magnification. If you are using a point and shoot, just use the macro mode on the camera (it's the flower setting).

Supplemental lenses for point and shoot cameras are generally not worth the money they cost, they digrade image quality too much.

F-Stop

Keep in mind the differences between close-up, macro, and micro photography. Ideally, you want a digital-SLR camera with about a 10 megapixel sensor -- or more. Purchase a 100mm macro lens and extension tubes to go along with your "regular" lens -- NOT supplementary lens that fit on the front of a lens. They are NOT as good as using tubes because they distort the image the closer you get to the subject whereas tubes to NOT and are ideal. Also, purchase a lens reversing ring which places the back of your lens in the front and the front to the back. This allows even more magnification but because the back element of every lens is flat, the image in NOT distorted when you reverse the lens. Last, supplemental magnification filters used on the front of a lens add an additional set of surfaces the image must pass through whereas tubes do NOT. Think of an extension tube as a fixed bellows -- plus you can stack several tubes together for more magnification -- but you will need a lot of light on the subject.

Hi I have a cannon power shot elph sd1000 with 7.1 mega pixels. (It does not have add on lenses). It does so well with Macro mode! I have amazing photo's from this mode. Macro function was the main reason I bought the camera. Definitely recommend it. great all around camera as well.

Many digicams have amazing close up modes (indicated by the flower icon) I have a Canon G6 that does a super job from very close distances.

If you want a dSLR, there are many lenses you can choose for macro and other purposes.
