ERD is early return of dependants. One or more dependants move to the US (with a military household goods movement) without the spouse accompanying them. If this is what you want, then read on, if not, ignore this post as it will not be relevant.
File for Divorce and AD member requests an ERD. This is the quickest way to get the ERD. However, if you do NOT want to get divorced and you are looking for the move for other reasons (school, family illness, etc.) there are LOTS more options.
First option: Just go home! Pack your luggage, hop on a plane and fly home to the US. Spouse can get a loan for the plane tickets, you get home and see how things go in the states. If you decide to stay, just stay. Your Spouse's COLA will go down, but other than that, things stay mostly the same. He/She can mail you anything you NEED.
Each situation is unique and needs specific answers to specific questions. Hope this was helpful!

depends on the reason. Just be aware that if you do, you will NOT be allowed back to the original base, you will lose SOFA status if applicable and you will no longer qualify for on base housing.
The Servicemember has to request it, the spouse cannot.
